Hey Guys, I'm starting a scrimshaw collection and need a complete list to go by. Can any of you help me? :)
Also, what's the best way to clean the white stuff off the delrin handles and keep it off?
Buy "MADE IN USA"!

Jerry,
Its gonna be a long list.
Roughly 25 yrs of scrims and about 8 models a year. Approx 200 knives. That does not include the unknown numbers of specials.
I'd love to see them all when done!

My apologies if this image file is too large for some of you. Jerry, you'll probably wanna narrow your focus on these things. Here is a page from the BRLevine Guide to knives, a reference you'll frequently see mentioned here. This shows a few years worth of the American Wildlife Series of scrims. I've simply chosen the year 1981 to try and collect. Only seven knives, all interesting animals (to me, that is) and of course 7 patterns, of equal interest to me. And I was very taken with the first of the series I bought.

Check 'schrade scrimshaw' on ebay and you'll find lots. Maybe you'll decide just to collect one patten of knife, with every different scene.

Thanks again for your help when I was seeking a special knife.

Thanks Phil,
I forgot the listings in Levines. I have the 5th ed. Didn't even think of it. Guess what i'll be asking for XMAS, Bday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc, etc, etc,.

There is a book out all about different commemorative knives. I'd like to find the most recent edition of it. Anybody know?

Hello, you have set yourself a bit of a task. Here are some pics of one set sold by Schrade in 95 it is the LTD edition of the great outdoors set. It alone has 7 knifes. You can only imagine how many variations there are and then there were new ones each year and then there were the little known ones and contracts quite a list I doubt if Schrade really knew all of them ( exactly) themselves. I will be selling this set in the near futures since I have several and the price on scrims is picking up. LT

LT... that set is why you are on my 'favorite sellers' list on ebay.

Bill... thanks for the link. that is a bargain price on that book, and it is what I was looking for. while I was on the site, I saw a brand new model fo my favorite military knike.. it was orginally the Cattaraugus 22Q. Here it is, but don't beleive the old wives tale about this being a 'quartermasters' knife. It was a full bore combat knife, that may very well have never opened a crate or pounded a nail to close it.
had to buy it

Glad that was what you were looking for. I'm always happy one someone finds an unexpected treat, as well. :)

Hi Phil,
I've visited the Ontario factory a couple of times & also bought that same knife in their store. (along with a few other's) It's not quite a 2 hour drive from my house & well worth it. This is another old American knife company that's been around for years that makes a quality product. They also have Queen Cutlery & Schatt & Morgan knives there.....www.ontarioknife.com
ps...thanks again for Knife World!

Probably a lot of us here have a particular interest in seeing other (the surviving) US knife companies continue to thrive. I'd be like a kid in a candy store at the Ontario knife factory store, having an interest in US military knives as I do.

The story of Queen Cutler is a fascinating one, a company actually hijacked by their employees. But that's for a different forum, I guess.

One thing I like about Knife World is that they usually have a good cover story on knives that are intriguing to collect, knives any of us could afford, that are available in many interesting variations. I think they do tend to slightly raise market prices on the brands/patterns they feature, but this is usually short-lived.
