An old and valued nephew and customer placed a special order a month or so back and wanted a scrolled buttcap on it. Here's the buttcap he got and this is what a scrolled buttcap should be. It's heavy brass soldered, done by Bura, and the hand engraving is done by Bhimsen. This is the way the logo khukuri was made and this is the first scrolled buttcap I've ever received that was made in this manner. All the others used a piece of scrolled stock -- too thin -- and soldered it to the brass buttplate -- the cheap and easy way. Bura and Bhimsen did it right.

But, sorry to say, we didn't have a wood model and Bura took great liberties in making the blade as he thought it should be made rather than following sketches and pix. Because of this we may see this knife back and up on the forum for sale since it didn't turn out the way we wanted or expected. They just can't seem to get it without a model to work from. Maybe it's because they can't read and write.

But I was happy with the buttcap at least.

Uncle,
This I like VERY much!!! I have always been a fan of the scrolled buttcap. It's nice to see one again.

Uncle Bill,
Very, very impressive! And, to think, I thought the regular buttcap was pretty enough.

Uncle Bill,
Very handsome work from Bura and Bhimsen. Can you give us an idea what this style of buttcap would add to the price of a medium-sized khukuri (OK, in this group I better define my terms, say an 18" Sirupati or WWII)?

Oh yeah, this is something we need to keep around. A buttcap like that makes the perfect "cap" to the gorgeous knives that BirGorkha is producing. Now I have to go re-think my wish list.....again

IT IS REALY A BEAUTY.IF I WOULDN'T BE LEAVING THE STATES SOON, I COULD ORDER A SHERPA STYLE KHUK WITH THIS KIND OF SCROLLED BUTTCAP. ANYWAY A YCS BY BURA WOULD COME FIRST IN MY LIST. TALKING ABOUT OTHER KHUKS I FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON THE TWO SPECIAL ORDERS (16" UBE AND STEEL MOUNTED 16 WWII)ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN WE CALLED FtL. Ldl. AND I LOVE THEM.
I HAD TO FLY TO BRAZIL TO JOIN ANOTHER SHIP, SO I DECIDED TO LEAVE THEM BEHIND FOR THE MOMENT. TOMOROW I WILL BE BACK IN FLORIDA AND I WILL GET THEM BACK AND POST A PICTURE AND A REPORT.
IT IS GOOD TO BE ABLE AGAIN TO FOLLOW THE FORUM.

This is very pretty but I wonder about the butt cap being far enough from the central ring to avoid digging into the palm edge of your hand.
The thing I like most about the plain caps is that they can be rounded off without destroying the flow of the khukuri.
I believe it would be a very nice option if it's possible to do so without confuseing the kamis.

The buttcap is pretty sturdy. I didn't tear it apart to see the thickness of the stock on the vertical but I think it's the same as used on our standard buttcap -- about 1/8 inch thick.

It is tempting but the basic problem remains -- you have the sharp ends and you can't modify the buttcap more than 1/16 of an inch.

I hate to offer this as an option simply because of the logistics involved. Any special order is a struggle.
