Just wondering if most use a scrollsaw or bandsaw for cutting out handle scales? Narrower the blade the better huh?

Personally I like the band saw just because the blade goes down in one direction the whole time. Half the battle with a scroll saw is having to hold the piece flat so it won't lift up or slap the table on you during a cut even with the help of the clamp from the saw. Just get you a thin 1/8" band saw blade and you can do some pretty intricate cuts with it. I have a good scroll saw that rarely gets used. My band saw on the other hand is one of the most frequently used tools in my shop.

I use a scroll saw mostly, and I'm in 100% agreement with STR. A decent bandsaw would be much better. I mostly make hidden tangs, so I don't need one that often, but I'd sure invest in one if I were going to make more full tangs or folders. My scroll saw is an old Craftsman, and its pretty slow going on all but the thinnest of materials, not to mention the having to hold the piece down constantly.
