Scuba/Demo

I gotta say... I don't really understand the reason behind "modernizing" the Scuba/Demo. I've always considered the original to be a top-notch historical reproduction. It needs a satin finished blade, brass hand-guard and a leather washer handle. ;) I'm sure it's still a great knife, though... just loses some of the MACV-SOG cool factor.

made in china i rest my case

I don't know what website you got that information off of, but according to http://sogknives.com/store/SSD01.html the Demo is made in Taiwan, which isn't China. It's also made from AUS-8 steel which IMO is a really good stainless that SOG knows how to do a good Heat treat to.

When I see the name Scuba/Demo, I think dive knife and leather handles IMO aren't good for that unless the user takes extra good care of them. The new handle is much better around water and I for one would love to get my hands on one. Of course I also would have loved to of bought the Limited Damascus Scuba/Demo that I got to handle years ago, IIRC it was #17 out of 25 and oh so pretty!! *drools*

i forgot china and taiwan are better than seki made. i doubt anyone will ever collect and pay a premium for the taiwan knives

No premium.. THe Seki japan SCUBA had a retail of 290$ and the new ones are like 150$... So I guess thats why they are cheaper.. I personally love the SEKI JAPAN SOG knives however i started collecting the SOG 2005 SE editions.. Kinda cool cause they keep the old logo but are made in Tawian
