I am looking for a solid survival type knife for wilderness use.

I have been considering the Gerber LMF II but after reading many comments here I am going away from that knife,,,, specifically because the serration comes up higher than I would like and the sharpening issues with the serration.

The ScubaMax Titanium KN-920 has now caught my eye, anyone have this or know anything about it,

Thanks!!

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

I never heard of this ScubaMax knife. If you're looking for a survival knife, I would suggst a high carbon steel blade, or a good stainless, rather than titanium.

Mission Knives uses a better titanium alloy than most, but even their knives won't retain an edge to cut like good steel.

Start off by looking at the good old Ka-Bar and some of the larger Scandinavian knives.

Thanks for your suggestion I narrowed it down to a BK7 and a Short KA-BAR USMC

Price was similar and I read a lot of good things about both. I ended up going with the shorter blade (Ka-Bar) in the end figuring it will be most useful for myself.

Good first survival knife purchase? I own and use a Leatherman Core and a Gerber Gator (Folding) but this is my first Fixed Blade.

A multitool or Swiss Army Knife is an excellent survival tool. The Gator's not a bad knife, either. Any big, tough folder can be useful. Under ordinary circumstances, the big fixed blades are probably the least useful but when you do need them, they are indispensible. I agree with your choice of the smaller Ka-Bar.

Titanium blades are good for 2 things: EOD, and extended saltwater immersion. The first really requires it the second requires a good stainless steel and maintenance
