This was an interesting knife to build. The, guard/subhilt, assembly was a first
for me and proved itself to be a challenge.

  • The blade is W2. Triple normalized, clay hardened with 2, two hour tempers at 450fh. 7 1/2". Hand filed false edge.
  • The guard is forged wrought iron that has been heat blued.
  • Ferule is buffalo horn, nickel silver, with black fiber spacers.
  • Subhilt outlined with walrus ivory.
  • California buckeye burl was used on the handle.
  • The butt cap was forged from wrought iron and is inlaid with my makers mark. A pine tree and rising sun.
  • Overall length is 12 1/4 inches.

Thanks for L:D:Dking, Fred

It's a beauty, Fred! The sub-hilt reminds me of an old-style trigger guard. Very skilled work. The medallion in the buttcap is ay cool, too.

Very nice and quite distinctive. That knife will stand out in a crowd.

Nice work,Fred!

I enjoyed watching the progression of this one. Now whatcha gonna build?? :)

It's beautiful to be sure. But what really strikes me is that it's a knife I would like to use. I like the guard, and the combination with the subhilt makes it solid and secure. The top S guard looks perfect for a fighter, and it looks really quick in the hand. Very nice.

Love it! Been anxious to see it all finished up. Excellen work!!!

excellent.....i was wondering how you were going to connect that subhilt piece withuut burning down your shop with the arc welder.....lol Very unique design.

That's a very special knife and just a master piece from your workshop :)

Always love to see your craftsmanship Mr. Rowe

Really great job,Fred-I love how all the materials came together in this piece:thumbup:

This knife was a collaboration, in that, I had input from many people, from many parts of the world. The on line knife comunity

What a great place to hang out. You learn a lot, get to laugh out loud; occasionally soiling your self and have the opportunity to chat with some very informed people.

Thanks to all of you that posted comments, when this was still in the design state. I ignored all of you.:jerkit::foot:

I appreciate all the nice comments from those who like how it turned out.

I'll post pictures of the sheath upon completion.

Fred

Rugged, yet classy. I tough combination to create, yet you succeeded masterfully. Very nice work Fred!

That is a classic design with a modern touch. The variation on the subhilt is unique and the use of blued wrought iron is very unique. From concept to choice of materials to final execution this is a real piece of the makers art.

Man Fred, I haven't seen it since the butt cap was put on and I must say.......its the icing on the cake. That is a really beautiful piece off work !

I love the nice and like has been said, the butt cap sets it off nicely. Can't wait to see it in it's sheath.

I've never seen anything quite like it (that's good!!!). :D

It's hard to come up with originality when it comes to a bowie...
