I got this today at my local junk shop. Cost me $15. This is the most expensive item I have ever purchased from this store, and I have bought quite a bit there over the last 5-6 years. Does anyone have any info on this tool? Company, when it was made, did I do okay on it? Thanks for the help! This was my first purchase of this type of tool!

i saw a video with something similar, i think he called it a hand scythe (or something similar) it was just a sickle with a longer handle. yours has a handle so i dont know how similar they really are

I think you did good for a tool in that condition. North Wayne Tool Co. was a known high quality scythe maker. That said, this is something of a homeowner model. 42Blades will have a lot to add I'm sure.

Thanks guys I really appreciate it! I did notice that the logo is not a sticker. I’m not sure how they got it on there but it’s nice. The edge looks like it was never sharpened. Looks like someone took it out one time and hit a t-post or something. The entire blade is perfect except for one dent. I’m sure it can be sharpened out but I probably won’t be the one to do it. It was a nice in original condition tool so I got it. But who knows if there is a need for it I will probably use it!

The Scythook was made for quite some time. Though I'm unsure of when it was first introduced, they were being made up through the 1950's at least, and were probably still a production item when the company shut down in the early 1960's. They were sort of a homeowner model for folks who needed something more substantial than a grass hook or long-handled grass hook, but didn't have the need for a full-blown scythe. They were for spot-trimming and occasional use. Not a heavy-use tool, and many are found with a crack running through the angled part of the socket halves.
