Hi all,

i recently acquired a skinner from SDS, an Oklahoma Knifemaker here in Oklahoma City. Here are some specs:

1/8th inch CPM154
OAL 6.75 inches
Blade: 2.75 inches
Handle: natural canvas micarta with stainless steel colby bolts
sheath: drop pouch, wetformed leather sheath

My initial impressions:

WOW! I've handled a LOT of knives, but very few just settle into my hands and feel like they were made FOR ME. This handle is simply the best I've ever owned in terms of warmness and fit. I used it in the yard for 30 minutes cutting branches, etc and not once did I feel a hot spot. Simply amazing.

the heat treat is dead on. I cut up 10 or so branches, some fruit, veggies and meat, and was still able to shave the hair on my arm. The grinds are symmetrical and the handle gives me full access to the blade when cutting close to the ricasso.

You can't leave out the sheath in any review. Shawn included a drop pouch, wet formed sheath. I really like a good sheath and this is no disappointment. The sheath holds the knife securely but not so much as to have to wrestle it out or in when using it. a pet peeve I have is belt sheaths you have to fight with to get on your belt. this one went on and off my belt wit no problem and has a slight cant to make for easy withdraw of the knife.

Here are some pics to show off Shawn's skinner. enjoy:

Here is a picture of one of my favorite features of this knife: the double jimping. You'll see that not only is there jimping on the thumb ramp, but Shawn also out some near the tip for better leverage when skinning.

Here you can see some fuzz sticks I made with the skinner. I'm no bearthedog, but you can see that the SDSkinner made short work of this green wood.

This picture gives a good view of the handle. As you can see, the width of the handle is perfect for comfortable grip

Being a food guy (operate a professional kitchen), I thought it would be cool to try out the skinner on some onions and brats.

Yummy!!

As you can see, the skinner had ZERO problem handling these light kitchen duties.

Again, the form, fit and finish of this knife is amazing. I'm thoroughly impressed with it's functionality and versatility in handling just about anything I've thrown at it today. From cutting open my mail to making fuzzsticks to slices up an onion, it's a perfect utility knife.

Shawn: thanks for making me this functional and aesthetically pleasing knife.

Best,
Brett
