well since i had my doubts about the ridiculously thin edge on this thing holding up (silly me), i went to go test it out. found a nicely sized fallen tree and went to work. i don't remember how many chops it took, but it was quite a few, especially once i got down to the hard stuff underneath the rotten wood.

a new challenger appears!

wanted to compare it with the HR since that was the closest knife i had. the ASH bit deeper (approx a centimeter more in the rotten wood) because of the much thinner edge profile. the ASH does taper to the HR thickness at about half the blade though, and continues to taper quite a bit to the tip. another reason i was concerned, but it held up well.

after a some chopping with both, the HR actually feels more like a chopper than the ASH. it does have a more forward balance and can be held farther back though.

a little friend who also likes working on wood :)

i rolled the edge in one small spot just a little on both knives, but some ceramic to polish and a good strop later, they're just fine.
i think the HR actually makes a slightly better all-arounder. but the SE ASH comes pretty close, with a slightly more comfy handle (cept for the rear talon when chopping :()and the ridiculously sharp edge doesn't hurt either

Awsome pics, and nice surprise there - just when I thought all the characters were confirmed for brawl!

great pics, did you wrap your pinkey around the talon on the rear of the ash? I found it easier if I loop my pinkey to the outside of that to get a little more rear leverage. My HR I dont feel chopped well but it is lighter than my CGASH which is heavier and thicker than your ASH SE....so it would be harder to compare the two.

Great pics! This reminds me I should be going out this weekend.

Thanks for sharing:thumbup:

Now I'm curious how the cgAsh1 would perform (I should know in a couple of weeks :D)

Oh ya, speaking of which - I think it'll prolly be up guys like you and me, silverdragon33, to convince Jerry the world needs an Infi Buster sword or Masamune!

 i don't think i'd be able to afford either of those at the moment, but it sounds like a good idea. buster sword . . . well many hogs like them fat, this is just the next logical step, right?

Anyone else notice it's light when he starts, dark when he finishes? :p
Good comparison though, I would have thought the ASH to be more effective.

that's the flash and the crappy camera auto adjusting. the flash makes everything darker, but it's really hard to focus without it. i'm also no photographer.
