well since i had my doubts about the ridiculously thin edge on this thing holding up (silly me), i went to go test it out. found a nicely sized fallen tree and went to work. i don't remember how many chops it took, but it was quite a few, especially once i got down to the hard stuff underneath the rotten wood.
a new challenger appears!
wanted to compare it with the HR since that was the closest knife i had. the ASH bit deeper (approx a centimeter more in the rotten wood) because of the much thinner edge profile. the ASH does taper to the HR thickness at about half the blade though, and continues to taper quite a bit to the tip. another reason i was concerned, but it held up well.
after a some chopping with both, the HR actually feels more like a chopper than the ASH. it does have a more forward balance and can be held farther back though.

the baton didn't last long . . . .
