MaxTheKnife says these look like a sea horse, so there it is, a model named Sea Horse.
3/16ths ATS34, hollow ground on 8" wheel, spalted maple burl dyed dark red but came out light red (I'm avoiding refering to it as pink). The scales were soaked three times, under vacuume in Minwax wood hardener with Rit dye. This still left the wood pores more open that I would have liked. It was a real pain to sand cleanly. WSSI is where all of my wood will go from now on. Their results are simply so much better it's just not worth attempting to do it myself. Blade is approx 4", handle another 4&1/2". Mosaic pins are home made. 416ss bolsters. Sheath is kydex lined and dyed-n-dipped in 50/50 linseed & beeswax with a metal belt clip.

Looks very nice. I like the way your wood came out even if it was a pain to do. With the kydex lined sheath you've got a nice package!

That is a nice package. Everything seems to compliment each other. I'd keep the recipe for pink. It could be a real hit in San Francisco!:D :D :D :D

Very nice, Tracy. Looks like it would be very comfortable to use. Do you use fasteners on the kydex liner as well as stitching the leather? Thanks.:)

Looking good, I especialy like the way you positioned the pins. Wood looks good, even if it is pink.:D

The kydex is formed just like you normally would, rough side out. There are no mechanical fasteners connecting the leather and the kydex, none are needed. It's in there real snug.
The kydex is slathered with leather glue as is the inside of the leather sheath. After it sits for a few minutes to get a good tack, I put a knife in the kydex(wrapped in saran wrap) and then put the kydex inside the leather. The whole shebang is then put under a hundred pounds of lead shot bags. I reload shotgun shells so I have them around. The shot molds around the contours nicely. After 30 minutes, it is set up and then I stitch it all up and trim off the excess leather. The kydex makes a nice snap for the knife both going in and coming out. I have learned to use a "V" notch inside the leather part of the sheath where there are contours to match up with the kydex contours. Another problem I stumbled onto was making the leather 'wrap' too tight, squeezing the kydex making it nearly impossible to get the knife in or out. You will have to grind and bend back an opening in the kydex at the throat to allow the knife bolster to slide in smoothly.
If there is any interest, I'll take pic's when I make the next one and see if I can get some one to post them for a mini-tutorial.
