SEAL 2000 Design Change?

Hey Folks,

I have a question regarding the recent SEAL 2000 knife. I have an older model, and noticed that the newer model seem to have a different upper edge. Is it just me, or does the upper edge have a more pronouced point in the middle of the blade? My older SEAL 2000 knife seems to have a less pronouced point on the upper edge.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

As a follow up question to the design change...

I've noticed that a lot of retailers online still list the Seal 2000 knife along with the stats for the model made in Seki, Japan.

Whenever I've ordered one-or inquired further-it always ends up that they are actually selling the Seal Team.

My last one has a sticker on it with SOG's barcode that states,

S37-K
SEAL KNIFE 2K

and then on the bar code has an orange sticker that says "SOG-2000".

I didn't see the original Seal 2000 listed on the discontinued page at SOG. Does anyone know the model # of the original?

Better yet-does anyone know where to get one of the older models other than e-bay?

I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but when I intended to order the newer SEAL Team model on Amazon, I received the first-generation SEAL Knife (Knife = v1, Team = v2 as far as I can tell) instead.
Probably no way to be sure, though.

As far as the difference between them, here's a picture of my own two which should show the shape changes fairly well: http://jumperus.shackspace.com/SOG/SOG%20Knives%202%20-%20800.jpg

The concave curved portions up top are more pronounced in the newer version. The handle is thinner, a little shorter, and has the tang protruding from the rear. It's an ounce or two lighter as well, I believe, and should be AUS-8 instead of AUS-6. The blade on the original is more of a white-grey, while the second-gen is a darker grey.

the checkering of the handle on the Seal Team is more aggressive.which could be a little less aggressive in my opinion ,more like the Seal 200 was, which was good.but the thinner handle fits my hand better than the Seal 2000 did though.
and the tip is more slender/thin than the Seal 2000,which has a heavier blade overall.

and yeah, they sometimes sell the Seal Team as if it is the Seal 2000,or the 'new'Seal 2000.

the SealTeam is a FAR better cutter/slice than the Seal 2000 is.
and for penetration the Seal Team is also the better choice.

The SEAL 2K has transitioned into the SEAL Team. It is basically the same knife. We made few changes to the design and moved production to Taiwan.

As for finding an older version I think your best bet is either the for sale forums here or the dreaded eBay.

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking for an older model. I loaned my knife to a friend, and he somehow managed to do something to the finish near the hilt (actually wore the finish off?). I'd like to get another old, and possibly two of the newer ones. I'll check with my local sources first.
