Hello,

Recently, I bought all 3 SEAL knives, SEAL Pup (M37) $49.99, SEAL Knife 2000 (S37) $77.00 & Tigershark (S5) $96.00, from eBay.

They were all "New In Box". My question, is
it all right to keep the knives in their Kydex sheaths, for long term storage, 6 months or more?

Hi CQB,

Thanks for your post. Most long term knife storage concerns are based leather sheaths or enviornmental issues. Leather sheaths tend to interact with the steel and over long periods of time, corrosion can begin.

If you have a nylon or Kydex sheath and live in a moist (especially salty) enviornment, the blade being trapped in the sheath can cause problems. Or, if a knife has been used and not properly cleaned and oiled, problems may also result.

To answer your question, I would play it safe and store them outside the sheaths in the cardboard sheaths the knives were originally shipped in. If you properly clean and oil your knife, storing them in a dry location, it is likely fine to leave them in a dry Kydex or nylon sheath.

I hope this helps.

Nice. I'd love to own all three. I have the tiger right now. Ill see how it is when it comes to the door :D

being the existential bonehead I am, I leave all my knives in the sheath.... whether the sheath is leather, kydex, nylon, plastic, cardboard, bubble wrap....

I know, I know .... but hey, I exist in Kalifornia and I don't want any knife left behind, or it's feelings hurt, ya know ?? Knives have feelings too.

Cheers,

Carl

So Carl, is that why I feel the need to take some out and play with them more often? :D
