Seal Pup Elite vs. CSK II

I've been looking for a survival knife recently, and I've pretty much ended my search with these two. Both about the same price, and I like the looks of both. Which one would you guys pick? I'm pretty much looking for whichever one is tougher. I like the BM for the longer blade and carbon steel, but I'm worried that with the more slender blade it wouldn't hold up to chopping wood.

I know you have these two options, but there are, in my opinion, better choices at the price point. It would be worth looking at a cold steel srk, or if you want a real user, maybe a becker. you can get a becker bk 7. Better heat treat, wider blade and as strong as you could ever need. I don't thing any smaller knife will chop well at all, and it would be worth investing in a hatchet for that. If you are dead set on those two, I would pick the seal pup, although people seem to hate sog around here. I had a seal pup, and handled a cskII and the seal pup seemed stronger in hand. It would be worth noting that they both have thinner tangs, and I wouldn't trust either to chopping, but im sure with care they will both be good all purpose knives. Since it is a survival knife, I hope you never need it. ;)

I just saw some videos people hammering their Seal Pup to split wood with another piece of wood, and it appeared to do well. No, I'm definitely not set on these two and open to suggestions. I'm glad I posted here, the BK-7 looks great!

Maybe 'survival' was a stretch, I'm just looking for something to take camping and to clear away woodsy stuff and cut firewood with. So I'm hoping to get lots of use out of it!

The Seal Pup Elite is nice knife. I had a serrated blade and sold it, I may end up with a straight one in the future. SOG does a good job with its AUS8A steel.

The Benchmade CSK is simple knife and should be a fine blade because of that. 1095 is a great steel, takes a great edge and holds it well, plus it's very easy to touch up and keep it hair popping.

I, personally, am an unabashed fan of the Ka-Bar company. One of the Becker knives or any of the marine style blades will serve you well. I have one of the JAB Potbelly blades and it's by far my favorite knife.

Chopping wood?

I have a SOG Seal Pup Elite and really, love it, as a small do everything for no weight penalty fixed blade. But, IF chopping wood was on the agenda for it, it would stay in the bag and its huge friend the Munk Chunk, B11 or Kukri would come out.

If, I were in a pinch and had only one 5" knife it would be a ESEE 5, BK2, Ranger Afghan or some other brick of a knife that shrugs off batoning.

Yeah, it's not likely that I'll be chopping wood. That would be an in emergency. But I've now made a final decision on the BK7. It has a great reputation, carbon steel, long blade, and it's thick, just what I was looking for!

This is my first fixed blade, BTW, which is why it seems like I'm pretty clueless at the moment.
