How does one dilute epoxy, or find a suitable sealant to permanently seal a 550 cord wrap to a carbon steel blade?

I want to seal the 550 cord in order to make it tougher and stick together, and I also want to seal the carbon steel under the 550 cord.

I have seen some makers do it on their knives, but I cant seem to find a tutorial or how to.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've heard you can thin it down with alcohol but that's about all I can tell you. Surely someone has tried it and can give some specific advice.

I know you can thin it somewhat by adding more of one part than the other, but I have no idea which is which.

I've done my wrap or turks head or whatever and then soaked the para cord in superglue. Use the thinner stuff and take your time. It will soak in. And harden into a really tough handle.

Most 2 part epoxy I have seen, both parts seem to be about the same viscosity. You want to be careful not adding all the hardener because you don't want it to not fully harden and then have a big sticky mess. You might be able to add less if it is real hot out but I wouldn't trust it.

My friend also has a boat repair business and I have never heard him talk about thinning fiberglass resin. I wouldn't think alcohol would be a solvent and you would need something like acetone or MEK. I will try calling him and asking if it is possible.

Something you might want to try is to go to the dollar store and get a couple packages with 4 to a pack of the cheap, thin super glue. The cheap stuff is almost like water and should absorb really good. I would think 5 bucks worth would be more than enough and is about the same price as a 2 part epoxy syringe.
