SEALs and SOG??

So generally speaking I wouldn't doubt that SEALs use SOG as their main or even secondary knife for carry, except for the fact that i know some SEALs that don't ever use SOG. Mostly Benchmade or Spyderco are what is bought (on government funds) from what I've seen and heard.

My question is, why does SOG claim that they're the brand of use by the SEALs?? If that isn't what they use the majority of the time (unless bought personally). Was it just because they passed a training evolution that they were put through by the SEALs and have stuck with the claim to fame?

Does anybody have a significant proof that the teams used SOG back in the day or even to this day.

Yeah I understand that but isn't there laws against that? Seems like they wouldn't be able to put a government affiliated program on their work for the companies profit on false information.

iirc everyone can use anything they want and they make the purchase and get reimbursed up to I think $1000. If this is correct I don't think there is a single SEAL out there using a SOG.

Of course this may vary for each commander or team or some other way they're divided up. Or this could be totally false but I read it somewhere not sure if it was here or not. Also many special forces troops get to carry whatever they want/are best with so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was true

Yeah I agree with you and I'm sure that's true to an extent. Just from my knowledge that Navy wide every command has a logistics shop and they get items on their government budget but I wouldn't doubt since their budget is alot more pricey than say a non-special warfare command.

I was just wondering if SOG actually had any ties to the SEALs past or present. In my eyes knowing that SOG put that on their label I kind of look down on them. Especially if they need to falsify information to sale their product. Don't get me wrong I have several SOGs but doubt I'll be buying many in the future, unless they're on sale lol.

So I guess, it all started when the sog seal 2000 underwent the field test and came out top.

That point was never lost as a marketing strategy and brand imaging since that fateful day
It's not a lie, nor is it stretching the truth about what an official product evaluation had proven.
Guess this would be more convincing anchor point
than the original claims of having roots
with the super covert Vietnam era studies and observation group.
It's just plain luck that it had to take the played to death, seal tested and approved stigma.
It would have been different if they stuck with the green berets instead....

Guys, there are many, many pictures of SEALs wearing the SOG Pups both in training after BUD/S and in the field (Afghanistan). Just do a little searching around and you will see SOG, Benchmade, Spyderco, Kabar and low budget stuff, etc. They carry what they want but what they typically choose not to carry are the Ontario Mark 3's. They never were a popular blade for many reasons.
