search by steel?

does anybody know of an online knife store that lists their products by the type of steel? or if there is a compiled list out there that provides the more common knives of a certain steel? for instance, if i am looking for a new vg-10 blade, i don't want to look through a list of 1000 knives to find 20 made of vg-10, and only 1 or 2 that interest me, i would rather look at a list of steels, click "vg-10" and have the 20/1000 just show up for me to see. is there anything out there like this?

I would love to hear the answer to that question too! such a feature would make browsing for new steel so much more pleasant (no more clicking on an interesting looking blade and finding out its 440A!)

I know that the Spyderco Factory Outlet has a listing by steel, but that is the only one I have seen that way.

That would be an interesting way to search. Would it be by hardness too?

I do not know of a store that supports that search function, but the Benchmade website lets you do that. It's part of their "knife wizard" found under the "search" button on their home page.

On A.G.Russel's site, the search function searches descriptions and specs as well as product names, so entering a steel will return products made with it.

The only problem is if a steel other than what the knife is made of is mentioned in the description (e.g. searching for "1095" yields some knives made of 01706-C).
