I can't seem to find a tutorial on handle inlays among the helpful lists you guys provide. But I may be using the wrong term, as I want to experiment with brass and nickel/silver on the handles of hidden tang knives. Not escutcheons, not wire inlays. I see them on some of the high-end customs, and they look like large (1/4 and larger) spacers that encircle the handle. Sorry to not know the terms. Any help appreciated.

Do you mean spacers? Like in R. Duncan's post here?

If so, those are just slices of material fitted to the tang and stacked and shaped with the rest of the handle.

No, sorry, not spacer, but metal inlays (?) or rings of metal that encircle the handle, and are inset into the wood handle.

Huh...I've never seen anything along that line. Could you point me to an example?

Thanks,

thanks for the replies, but not what I am looking for. I'll find a picture and start a new thread so I can express what I'm after.

no problem guys. hope it helps!

shows some knife pics of finished projects and let us know how they turn out. its something i'd like to mess with in the future

Rookie7, is the term you seek "ferrule"? The handle material is shouldered to fit into a ring? If seen in the middle of a handle, it often covers a seam where two pieces of material come together and the ferrule covers the shoulders.

Michael.

Thanks very much for the link. I have been trying to figure out how to those inlays for ages.

Let's kill this thread. I think I am asking about a tutorial for metal spacers that would go on any hidden or through tang knife.(not spacers that go on a leather ring knife). I've seen lots of pictures of such knives, but have yet to find a tutorial.

sorry to be so inarticulate, but the terms sometimes throw me. Thanks to all who have tried to help.

Phil

Don't give up yet. Post a picture of one of the knives. Somebody here will know how to do it.
