Search Function Question

Why do I no longer see the Search Button on the blue bar?

I have apparently lost other rights as well. Is this just me? I haven't seen anyone else reporting anything.

Ah, I see that...now. It's funny, I have had about 3 different accounts on this forum over the years. (Only one at a time though.) What has always happened is, I see the message stating I don't have rights and I walk away, and then come back much later and create a new account. I think I may start reading those posts.
 
It also appears as though I have lost the ability to "View New Posts." I can't remember if this is exactly what the term was called, but it was something along those lines that allowed me to view anything that had been posted since the last time I logged in...Any advice from mods or other techies would be greatly, greatly appreciated!
 
Sorry to have wasted your time. I simply didn't understand that. I greatly appreciate your tolerance for my ultimate stupidity and promise that it will not happen again!

...or when we get enough money together to upgrade the servers, whichever comes first. If you hold off a while maybe enough other people will join to fund the upgrade. If everybody holds off waiting for other people to join ...
 
All things being equal, I'm checking a few options here. Throwing money at the hardware end isn't a great long term plan, so I'm investigating another option called Sphinx search which may provide a solution. The problem with that is that I'm not sure if it makes changes to the postings db that would wind up breaking the site when we upgrade software.

In the meantime though, limiting search to paying members certainly has prevented "too busy" errors as far as I can tell, along with some other changes we've done on the back end.
 
I'm still getting some server too busy errors, and the forums are still running very slow at times. The changes have reduced the load enough to keep the forums from becoming unusable, but there's still a lot of load, and it's still growing all the time.
