There's been some changes to the servers on the software side recently so I'm enabling searching again for registered users.

If it causes a mass of Server Too Busy errors again, I'm going to disable it for non-paying members.

We'll see how it goes.

Great news. I hope things work out.
Spark,
Thanks for taking the time to find a way.

great news....nice even-numbered post count there, Spark. :D

ShopTalk will probably notice the greatest difference....:foot:

Spark- I noticed that even while the more restrictive search rules were in place I got the busy server message- albeit less frequent than before. I think it happened like twice in the past week for me, later in the evening (around or after 10:30PM Eastern).

That's the highest traffic time for the site.

Uh, got server too busy 60 seconds ago. Also my post right before
took 45 seconds to post.

Around 9 is took me about 10 minutes for a page click to turn over - it didn't even go to the "server busy" message - just hung. About 10 pm EST it started working fine again.

I had a thread stop loading until I hit refresh and then it loaded normally. That's a new symptom; that doesn't normally happen here. Sorry, I don't remember what thread it was. If it happens again I'll note the time and post a link.

It's 11:40 AM PST and I just got server busy for several minutes.

At 1:57, 1:59 and 2:00 PM Central time I got
"I received another server busy after a 3 minute wait.
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later."

This was after a 2 minute wait for a page to load after a couple
of STOP page loading and retry attempts.

Other than that every once in a while, no problem.

NEVER had any probs but that's because I'm viewing at European time. Nice to see the search back(for now..)thank you.

Thanks! I myself missed the "post history" feature the most.
I will continue to use google for doing normal searches on this forum to not overload this site.

As a suggestion, maybe there is also another way of speeding up the server.
I can be wrong, but it looks to me that looking for new posts is the most used search feature. So maybe if you change the "New Posts" link in the title bar (of the non-paying members) to this in stead of the the current link you can gain a reasonable amount of performance.

The first link(http://www.bladeforums.com/ shows a cached version(automaticly updated every minute or so) of the newposts feature, so it doesn't stress the server as much as the latter(http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew) that searches again every time you press it. So when you use the first one the only negative effect is that you won't be able to find posts made in about less than a minute, and the titles will be a bit shorter. But the increase in performance should be significant.

edit: I'm not totally sure about this, as I don't know the underlying architecture or search statistics of this forum, but maybe my suggestion can be of some help.

Server to busy, atleast 2 times a day every day for a few minutes that im on...
Atleast for the past week or so.....
Thanks Guys
Matt B.

I'm getting server too busy errors occasionally, but no more often than when search was disabled. I think the tech guys were right; the problem is the load on the web server box.
