Have looked awhile for an EDC I can be happy with. Good edge, easy on the eye, everything.

For a time I thought I could find a knife with a CPM S30V blade. But I think that was taking me above the meager budget I have for knives.
I'd like comments on my current idea, which is to search knives with 154CM or AST-34 en blade.

I could say more but this is starters.

thanks in advance, :)

how much is your meager budget?

if you can swing $50-$60, the buck vantage pro (S30V) is a great choice.

What is the budget? There are a handful of S30V knives that are surprisingly affordable.

Buck Vantage Pro
Spyderco Native 4
Kershaw G10 Leek

Don't know your budget but if you are looking for a great knife in S30V, at a great price, check out the Buck Vantage Pro. It's USA made, good looking (in my opinion), G-10 handle scales, Buck warranty, and can be found under $60.

Best of luck in your search for a EDC blade.

I agree with those who listed less expensive knives with S30V blades. They are out there.

But if you want 154CM, that is out there also and it makes an excellent EDC steel. You might also look at VG10, AUS10, and N690. All of them hold an edge about the same.

Benchmade Mini-Griptilian in 154CM
Spyderco Delica or Endura in VG10
Spyderco Manix2 in 154CM
H&K (Benchmade) Monochrome in N690
I've not seen a lot of AUS10 recently, but if you find one, it's good to go.

I would not trip too much over S30V , steels like VG10 and 154CM ( my two favorite stainless ) when done right will give S30V a run for it's money and when you take into consideration that both are easier to resharpen , the difference is really negligible.

If you could scrounge $75-$80 you could get a Spyderco Endura in ZDP-189. S30V isn't much of a step up from VG-10 or 154CM. I can't tell the difference. And this is a good thing because it puts a ton of blades with that performance level in your price range.

Without an idea of how much you're willing to spend, it's really kind of pointless to offer suggestions. Having said that, The suggestions offered already are fine choices.

What sort of knife? What sort of chores?

Thanks all.

Have sent for the Buck Vantage Pro. I had looked at it twice a time back -- and am not sure what kept me from buying it then.

I got briefly in the bidding for a Spyderco.** But it went too high & did not have the characteristics the Buck has. The Spy.. gave me impetus/. I appreciate everyone and the counsel; I expect to carry this VP a long time.

cheers

Another vote for the Spyderco Delica. I just bought mine, and LOVE it. It takes an ungodly sharp edge, and was pretty cheap ($53). The opening hole did need a little love when I got it, but a few minutes with the Dremel and a synthetic wheel smoothed it right out.

I'm sure you will enjoy the Vantage Pro based on the many, many positive reviews I've read. For future consideration, VG-10 is a great steel. I have several Spydies that can attest...I really dig my Delicas! :)
