Searching for a Backpack

Well, I fell off the roof at work, so I'm sitting here on the sofa with a plate in my ankle and a cast up to my knee. So I say, what better time to shop for a new pack?

I have been lusting after a Kifaru Zulu for a long while, but in the last couple days, I've realized that I could buy a similar sized Mountainsmith pack, AND a Snugpak sleeping bag for a little more than just the Kifaru. So I'm torn. I'm also looking at Mystery Ranch. They look very nice, and are between Kifaru and M'smith in price.

Question 2: I want a pack that I can use as a day pack, for hikes and what not, and also something that I can use when I go away for the weekend, not camping, but traveling. I would also like something that could be used for multi-day hikes, but I think that is a bit of a stretch, and I may need to purchase two bags. So what size do you folks recommend? I'm thinking around 30 liters?

Ayway, any and all oppinions are welcome. Thanks everyone.

The most versatile pack I have found in relation to size adjustment has been the Dana Designs Raid Z or Racer X packs. They are designed for long distance or wilderness racing. They are very adjustable in the sense that they use a series of compression straps to securely tighten whatever size load close to your body. As a long distance trip lengthens, and your food supply diminishes, you merely tighten the straps and compress the bag. They may make poor tactical packs, however, and for travel, the straps will snag while the pack is being transported
