Hi, although I live in Holland I have not been able to locate a British knifemaker called Alan Wood.
He seems to be a top British Knifemaker.
I saw one of his knives made from O1 steel and grip made of birds eye maple.
Any info like address, website, some of his work is welcome.
Cheers, Bagheera

Thanks a lot guys for the address of Alan Wood.
Mr. Becker you hit the nail on the head when you immediately recognized the O1 steel in combination with birds eye maple as the "Ray Mears" personal design knife

.
I could however not see exactly how the knifeblades form is and if it's a flat grind or hollow grind also it looks to me like a rather sharply tapered knife (a la Benchmade spike) although it's a fixed blade and larger.
Mr. Becker if you have additinal info about Rays knife like a drawing or clear picture I would appreciate it. Also the description talks about a neck sheath ? it's unclear to me if one can attach it to a belt.

Thanks again,

Bagheera

The specifications are 4mm 01 tool steel, bevel gound with a handrubbed finish and c59 Rockwell. The blade is 110mm long and the overall length of the knife is 220mm. Scales are maple with brass fittings.
In looks the knife has a drop point rather than being a spike profile and is similar to the finnish pukko's in design. I have never seen the sheath so I cannot comment on it.
Unfortunatly I dont have a scanner so I cannot post a picture for you. However, Alan Wood does provide a catalogue. If you contact him direct, I am sure he will send you one out.
As a side note, I have read several reviews of Alan's knives over the years, and they have all been very good.

Thanks Mr. Becker for the info, Alan Wood already received an email from me.
Cheers, Bagheera
