Based on the reading I've done, I have self-diagnosed a moderate case of HIKV and learned that a cure probably doesn't exist - which means all we can do is treat the symptoms. My course of symptom treatment began with two DOTD items from 10-14 - the YCS and Farm Knife both of which arrived today.

Then I look at today's DOTD and the voices tell me to get the Ang Khola Bowie by Bhakta. A short while later Yangdu confirms that it's mine and I sent over the PayPal payment. It's looking like the medication for this affliction could be costly depending on the dosage frequency.

This all started a couple weeks ago with me ordering an M-43 I am still waiting for - Yangdu says they're coming soon from Nepal.

Today's unwrapping ceremony took place in the presence of my boss and several coworkers. Everyone was amazed - even more so after I tell them they had all overestimated the cost by 2 to 4 times. First out of the box today - the YCS - an amazing piece of art which was delivered with (by a wide margin) the sharpest edge I've ever seen on any new knife. The ensuing paper cutting tests left us all nearly speechless. I am certain I will be restoring the edge soon enough, but still very impressive coming out of the box! A few YCS photos:

Then I unwrapped the Farm Knife and my boss was instantly afflicted with HIKV as well. I am certain he will also own a Farm Knife soon. This thing screams USE ME AND ABUSE ME! A few photos of the Farm Knife:

there is no cure, surrender yourself and get your bank account ready to be emptied. :D

I love the way the YCS's look, I can get lost in those fullers. :) I am waiting for my Farm Knife among a bunch of other stuff. It will be here according to tracking on 27OCT10 and I can hardly contain myself. I keep telling myself it is not a good idea to hop in my car and go drive to the latest place tracking says it was and see if I can intercept my package early. :o

the only true cure is to have so many of them, that someone in your life intervenes :)

then you have a HIKVstravaganza

it'll always be in your blood though.

Getting them shipped to the work address is a considerate way to prevent one's spouse from getting needlessly troubled about the affliction.:D

Actually, as soon as my wife saw them her first comment was "wow, very nicely done" and the following question was "do they make swords too?". As a very advanced martial artist she is into swords. I am delighted that her solution to us filling up the first safe full of various trinkets (many of which are hers) was that we needed another much larger safe. :D Another example of my misfortune, for our 20th wedding anniversary she had absolutely no desire for a "traditional" gift - she wanted a Springfield EMP in 9mm along with several related items.

And no, she does not have a sister.

Jerry, those are some nice blades, Congrats and thanks for sharing some pictures of them with us. Would love to see your M43 when it comes in. So you know, HI makes swords and they are pretty affordable. There are more swords that come in from time to time then I can remember. But the Tibetan Long sword and Tarwar are on my list. By the way, a Sirupati that weights around 1" per oz makes a good short sword IMO.

A Springfield EMP is a sweet pistol and any wife that wants one for an anniversary is worth keeping. I'm thinking about getting a Springfield 1911-A1 in 9mm to compliment my .45. Would love to see pictures of her EMP sometime.

That is awesome no harassment from the Misses :D & congrats on the Farm Knife. I want one myself after I get my 2nd Khuk, I have an ASTK & decided on a Gelbu Special next :D

Sounds like you've got it bad:p

there is no cure. MAYBE over time you start slow down a bit. I generally only obtain 3 or so blades a year.

I'll tell you the reason why my collection has slowed down. Space. I don't have a very big house. HOWEVER, I have gifted quite a few of them away to friends. I have some noticeable holes to fill;)

Brother...it's EAZY PEAZY - just BUY, BUY, BUY until you ain't got no more money...then thin the herd by sellin' off your least favorites ...and keep what you can't part with... :D

well i dont recommend getting into firearms as a HIKV cure, or you will have a double addiction.

If my country's firearms policy was a bit loose i would have had problem paying for my food then. :D

AMEN, brotha.

I started out with one then that turned into half a dozen. thought shooting "cheap" black powder would do the trick. Turned into casting my own boolits and all the fluff that goes with it. Oh, and if you get a Remington you need a Colt. If you get a Colt you need a Remington. If you get both, well then you need a Walker. Well if you get a Walker then you need a traditional rifle. If you get one of those, then you need a flint lock to go along with it....oh, how about a conversion cylinder for your "cheap" BP pistols. Then you can shoot 45 colt and not have to spend so much time loading up your gun...they only cost about 60-70 cents a shot:rolleyes:

At least with HIKV, you know you're helping to feed good people, and you're getting a one of a kind knife to go along with it.

That said, just the other day I placed an order with Yangdu for a slightly shorter wooden handled Tirtha bowie:foot: Going on an outdoor camping/hiking trip to California next year (hey, I plan ahead). Should be rural enough to warrant a big chopper on my thigh, but california does not recognize my Indiana CCW:mad:...so, I'm not going ANYWHERE without at least some good old fashion Nepali steel on my leg:D
