I had a good customer ask me last fall if I could make him a Searles bowie similar to the one Josh Smith made for the ABS last year but with a little bit of a change, this is what we came up with.
He wanted random pattern damascus so I made up 400 layers.
OAL 14" - blade length 8 7/8", 1 7/8" width at widest point, sharpened top clip, blade and hardware are all 400 layers. African Blackwood handle. Feels excellent in the hand.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Bill

I have a knife in the works which I say to myself is based loosely on the Searles pattern. I don't think it will look nearly as nice as this one, Bill:thumbup:

Very nice Bill - one of my favourite bowie designs - can't believe I don't hve one! You made a beauty here - a really nice take on the theme.

Quite splendid! The same pattern in O1 or W2 with a nicely textured osage haft and I'd probably buy one. I'd be afraid to spoil the good looks of this one, show quality to be sure. I don't suppose it has an equally handsome sheath?

With warm regards,

Thanks guys for the comments.

Kevin - thank you on the MS, I think it looks fantastic.

Roger- this is the first like it for me, but I really like it too, I'm thinking about making me one when I get a little spare time.

erichsen- actually this ones going to be heading for the mid east in September, thats why he wanted it fairly plain. No sheath yet but soon.

Thanks again,

Bill

I'm not familiar with a Searles bowie, but the minimalist guard drew me in, like staring into the eyes of the Mona Lisa. Is that the crux of the original design?

Very obvious in this piece that the MS is deserved. Congratulations on a beauty.
