I just graduated from school. I'm thinking of finally stepping up and placing an order for a custom knife. Does anybody know who makes Searles-type bowies? Who do you recommend? Pictures would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

I think Bailey Bradshaw could pull off a nice Searles style knife with a modern flair. He did a very nice job on a Schively style knife for me.

Bailey and Ken are excellent choices and could turn out a spectacular knife for you. I had one made for me some time ago by Craig Camerer and I thought he did a terrific job:

Amen to that, Roger! That has to be my favorite Searles interpretation.

There are quite a few makers who come to mind, all of which would, in my view do an excellent job. In the end though it may come down to how much you would like to spend and how long you would like to wait.

Harvey Dean has made some fantastic Searles bowies.

Keep it coming guys.

Does anyone know what that little cutout at the bottom of the blade is for? Or is it just a stylised Spanish notch?
