You fair weather folks can skip over this one, but any ice-bound forumers have a suggestion for a durable, efficient ice scraper for windshields?

On the defogger front I have been using a product called Duz-All 2000 that I found at a computer show. Cheap, and it works even when it's very cold outside; it's sprayed on, and needs renewal ever month or so, but it works. It also acts as an anti-static charge product, too. Any other ideas?

At the discount warehouse the other week, I picked up a combination snow tool. It's a telescoping aluminum tube that adjusts from about 3 to about 6 feet long, sort of like a microphone stand. It has an ice scraper at one end and a snow sweeper and squeegee at the other. We got about 6 inches this past weekend and I cleaned off mine and my girlfriend's cars without getting snow all over me. Eureka! Best $9.95 I ever spent.

Sounds like a good deal, Craig....the best one *I* have cost me maybe $5.

I figured *someone* had to have a G-10 or talonite bladed, ergo handled, Leatherman-adaptable, kydex-sheathed version, but maybe this is one of those KISS items....!

On this last friday we (st louis, mo) were blessed with freezing rain that left almost an inch of ice on my truck. totally destoyed my $10.00 ice scraper.i went into an "advaced auto parts store" and they had this scraper made by prestone that has three blades, the front two are notched with teeth and the last one is smooth. its called the POLAR CLAW and it just scares the ice off the windows. real nice. $4.00 transluecent yellow with a black handle.

That's what I was looking for, Moeman.

Wow, an inch of ice is a lot...ever use any of the spray can based defrosters? (Your mention of Prestone reminded me of it)..thanks!

i haven't used any of the sprays, just doesn't seem economic to me.
you would have to you almost a whole can at one time. you know?

Rain-X washer fluid. It'll eat right through that layer of ice on your windshield. It's also really nice in the summer because you rarely if ever have to turn on your wipers, even in heavy rain.

The best scrapers are the cheap, $3 ones you get at places like Menards. They last forever, do a good job of clearing, and are very hard to break.

That spray deicer with the scraper on the can is kinda lame. Even when i have 1/2 an inch of ice on the window, a regular scraper works fine to clear it, and the can forces you to lean way over the car to scrape the window, which gets your coat dirty from the salt on the car.
