As a younger fellow (Just turned 25), I am trying to get into the traditional knife world. As typical I really only have modern folders. But I am trying to broaden my horizons and have stumbled on the Lionsteel euro barlow line. I like this line because of the modern materials coupled with the traditional pattern. The issue I have is deciding between the sheepsfoot blade pattern and the clip point. Most of my folders have a drop point style blade so I think a sheepfoot would be a good fit. But I also appreciate the versatility of the clip point with the little bit of belly. Both patterns are done beautifully so its a tough call. I know most of you guys have a lot more time behind these patterns than I do and I would like to hear your experiences with each.

I favor the clip for a single blade over the sheepfoot, but if you carry more than one knife and like single blades, then the sheepfoot would be a good addition to a larger clip.
Never thought of that, typically only carry one blade because I do not like a ton of stuff in my pockets. Will keep that in mind though. Thanks for the input

This is just my experience, but I find the sheepsfoot more versatile than any other blade shape, depending on how pointy it is of course.
At work and around the house I find that I start a lot of cuts in the middle of the material being cut, and the sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe excels at this.
I can still cut my sandwich with ease, peel an apple, chop the odd veggie and pick out a splinter.

I think clip and spearpoints are the most aesthetically pleasing, but the sheepsfoot is just so practical for my uses.
If you choose the clip point I still don't think you can go wrong as its truly a versatile shape. I especially like the ones with little belly, such as Buck uses on their slipjoints.

If you really notice reading what people are writing , they are saying that the Clip is the most pleasing to see but for work they prefer the Sheepsfoot . I certainly agree with them and I agree with joeradza joeradza in that the GEC #35 is a very nice knife to carry . It is a serious knife .

Buy both and alternate carry. Sell the one you don’t care for as much. Do you use a knife at work, or is this an edc, always on you knife? You may be able to pick one or the other up off the exchange, right now in fact. Just a thought, ymmv.
Thanks, Neal

I'm by no means seasoned, but I have one of each, Dom and Shuffler. I really prefer the Sheepsfoot, just as a general utility blade. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. For the longest time I always felt traditionals looked best with a Clip, and maybe they do, but in use the Sheepsfoot wins hand down.

I sincerely love this knife. Probably my most carried since I bought it. The snap is fantastic, nice and tight around 7. The Shuffler(second offering I believe) is more of a 5. Which is ok, but a blade like that deserves some force. I really love the Shuffler too, though. Hell, I just love these knives. M390 in a traditional patten is amazing!

If you're going single blade, then definitely clip point. The first few runs of Lionsteels had bouncy 5 pulls. I have read reports that the Doms bumped up to 6 or 7, and I confirmed with Mike that all of them moving forward will have this stiffer pull. So I would (and am) waiting for the next Shuffler (clip point) that is about to drop.

You can't go wrong either way, but I highly recommend the Dom. I've been carrying it almost everyday since they first came out. I passed on the shuffler and roundhead because I can't buy every knife, and knew that there would eventually be a sheepfoot version that I'd use more than either of it's predecessors.

I'd actually go for a Spear on this Lionsteel  Ram's Horn too:thumbsup:

The Churchill GEC 35 most certainly is versatile but it is not made from modern steel as the OP implied he preferred.
I haven't been able to get that one out of my head lately. There is just something so irresistible about a single spearpoint Barlow and that Lionsteel looks simply awesome.
