I've been toying with the idea of "seasoning" all my most-used steel tools in the same way people on here force a patina on carbon steel blades.
I tried a couple of experiments with an apple and a favorite small pair of needlenose pliers, and was pretty happy with the result.
Well, tonight, I went ahead and soaked a few of my Chan-nel-locks, and a couple other miscellaneous pliers in a tub of Apple Cider Vinegar.
Of course they don't look shiny and brand new anymore, but the dark patina is kind of neat, and I'm more interested in keeping my tools rust-free than shiny and pretty lookin'
Does anyone else pre-treat new tools, or are the rest of you just more responsible about keeping rust off the old fashioned way?
