Greetings Cantanistas!

I wanted to check in and wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.

School has been going extremely well. Here's a shot of the city and a nice sunset the other night. We climbed up onto the roof of the building, highly frowned upon but what else could we do, and captured a few photos. It dawned on me then that it is a bit strange to be studying old world furniture making in the heart of a major city. But maybe not...?

And, strangely enough, small world that it is... an old forumite is also in the same program now. I overheard a conversation one day, specifically the phrase "sweet spot on the kukri." ??!!? Now, as we all now, this is not something that you hear everyday. So, I went in and discovered that Snuffy is now learning how to make furniture. I never knew him from the forum, but some of you may remember him.

Anyway, he sends his regards, and thought you might like a little eye candy....

If you look closely at the above photo, you'll see that the horn in the scabbards is translucent. These knives were gorgeous in person.

Here's a sampling of some of the work I've been doing at school. The next piece I'm currently making is very sweet knife display/storage case.

And a pedestal table -

Anyway, I hope this finds you all very well and looking forward to holidays and life in general. I wish that I could visit more often, but it is what it is!

Cheers,

Bamboo, Seasonings Greetings to you, too. Glad you're doing well.

(Can't see the pictures, though).

Great to hear from you bro!!!

Merry Christmas, and, if you have time, get us those pics. I've always wanted to see your work.

Bamboo!

I can't see the pictures either, but will happily host them for you if you need that done. I would love to see the tool chest! I have one that is 90% completed in the garage. Needs a hasp. Plus the inner chest, and pull out need to be finished. Not made with hi-quality materials (chip board and 1X?'s) but it'll work. In fact it's holding my modest collection as it is! next one I'll make large enough to hold my saws!

That pedistal is AWESOME. Heck, the whole table is. You, sir, are 100 times the woodworker I am. I'm so jealous of your schooling. Keep it up.

Are you coming to Blade Show?

Good I'm glad they're up.

While I'm at it....

Here's a custom, mini Tarwar I had made a while ago. I've been wanting to share this one with you all for some time now. I sent Yangdu an email asking if it was possible to get a 24" Tarwar with a more substantial guard. She replied saying simply, "I'll let you know when it's here." Don't you just love that!

The Bowie on the bottom of this last pic is the one I picked up at the Blade Show in '05.

Thanks Andy! It is pretty easy when you're doing it full time, with amazing instructors to answer any questions.

I am planning on going down to the Blade Show again. I've even contemplated getting a table and selling custom knife and sword cases.

Hey, Ken!

Long time no see.. Now that mini-Tarwar: cool, very. Great idea.

I know forums can be a time-killer, but touch base more, y'heah?

oh, yeah. Nice furniture too. :D
