Seatbelt cutters/glass breakers?

So my wife tells me today she wants a Rescue Hammer, I ask her why and she tells me she is worried about being able to get our daughter out of her car seat in an accident and that she wants a glass breaker(she had a few good reasons)

So I try talking her out of the cheesy rescue hammer and showed her Leatherman and CRKTs offerings. Does anyone here have any experience with these things?

CRKT Exitool is what I have in each car on the driver side seatbelt. The chances of self extrication from an accident are really, really slim. Do enough damage, you ain't going anywhere until someone gets you out, on the other hand minor fender benders don't require tools to cut seat belts or break glass. A hammer would be of little use in a bad accident, especially if you are in the receiving end of the collision, they are basically for people that do the rescuing. Being disoriented, injured, concussed, etc. try finding it in the car, then swinging it...not likely.

Doesnt hurt to have one if it provides peace of mind, even if you never need to use it... Glass breakers work, seat belt/strap cutters, they can be hit or miss, I'd sooner just have a sharp knife.
That said, if assisted opening, >3", and concealed is legal where you live, look into a Blur with a glass breaker for her to keep in the car.

A spring loaded center punch makes short work of any side window.Available at any hardwear store.

I keep one in my bunker gear.

Get a large size automatic center punch. You may not be able to swing a tool [ under water, injured ]
Put it next to a good cutter .

Benchmade Triage. It's a multitool unlike the Rescue Hammer. I agree with mete about the center punch but considering her concern if she is under water, she is screwed already. The Houdini-Pro has everything that she should need for her concerns also.

Benchmade ERT-1/Houdini is what you're looking for.

Even comes in a little pouch that you can attach to the seatbelt.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I should buy one myself.

I've contemplated this question before and I'm considering getting a Fallkniven PRK to keep in my armrest.

Stat Gear makes a multifunction tool called the "T3 Tactical Auto Rescue Tool" with a 440C blade, belt cutter and spring-loaded punch, and I decided to pick one up when one of the online bargain sites had a deal on them. A couple of co-workers also bought some. We didn't have a windshield to test the punch on, but against a metal file cabinet, it made a bigger dent than I personally would be able to dish out with anything less than a hammer with room to swing away. I now have mine in my vehicle's center console.

These go for $40 or so, and I think I paid half that. I figure I don't care if it's a brand name product or not.

This what you want. I keep it on a string around my stick shift. All our local firefighters have them clipped to their turnout coats. They recommend them highly.
I don't like window punches on my knives so I went with the ResQme.

I agree with billym's recommendation of the ResQMe. Took a "Bullets and Cars" class a while back at the Sig Sauer Academy and the glass break/cutter I kept in my car basically didn't work very quickly. I now keep a ResQMe on my key chain, so I know exactly where it is if I need it. Don't forget everything inside your car is going to go flying all over the place in an accident.

Keys are sometimes stuck in the ignition in accidents, make sure you have a carabiner or some way to easily take the tool off the keys.
