I am in Seattle and New York for the holidays and am wondering where the good knife shops are at? Anybody have any suggestions?

I don't know of any real knife shops in the Seattle area. There's a chain called Excaliber in all the malls. They pretty much suck.

Go down 1st - 4th downtown (they run parallel) and check out the old pawn shops.

You might call and see it Tim Wegner at Blade tech has anything. He used to deal out of his place. He's moved since I used to live there, but is still around Tacoma.

These should still be good. I haven't been into New York to check them out lately.

As noted above, there isn't much in Seattle. BladeGallery is very nice and located in Kirkland which is approx. a 45 min drive east across Lake Washington on 520.

As others have mentioned, Blade Gallery in Kirkland has lots of good stuff to look at. They have more custom things though. Tactical Knives has more of the BM/Spyderco more affordable line. They are also a CRK dealer so you can handle them if you haven't before.

There is also Sportco in Fife WA that has an OK selection.

Welchers Gun shop in Tacoma has a pretty good selection of Benchmade, Kershaw, buck, and also have some Blade Tech knives. Yeah do stay away from Excalibur, their prices are outrageous.

at around 2000 1st Ave in downtown Seattle there is an army surplus store that has a lot of production knives, at inflated prices but the widest selection of knives I've found locally. the place in the Pike Place market has a pretty limited selection.

Blade Gallery is worth a trip to Seattle all by itself. Make sure to spend time chatting with Daniel, the owner.

Old school nice hardware store. They stocked a nice selection of Spyderco and Cold Steel. They're also a short walk from Paragon sporting goods.

Thanks for the info! I went to Pike Place and Seattle Cutlery today. Not really much of a selection (as noted above). I might be able to make it Blade Gallery, but I will see.

I am planning on going to Mastersmiths next week and maybe the hardware store.

Thanks again for the information.

Three little indians is a sweet shop, I bought my Strider there last year. They gave me a nice LEO discount as well. They were great to deal with.
