Getting flown out to seattle in a week or so to check out a job,the area, and see if its a move I want to make. Anyone living out there have any suggestions for places I should check out to live?? How are the gun laws, hunting, public lands, tag availability?? Also cost and quality of living. Fellow knife makers would be a real plus, I'm dying to get away from IG, so even if you just own a kitchen knife and don't know which end to hold, you'd be a real step up from what I'm used to:rolleyes::D

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

there are makers here that live around Seattle , they should be able to help . Big City is all I can tell you . As for the state , no state income tax as of yet , high sales tax 8 1/2 % . Lots of liberal Dems. Gun laws , $ 60.00 and an 8 question form will get you a concelled carry permit in 30 days , good for 5 years with a $ 30.00 renewal fee .

Thanks Jack, I am used to the high sales tax(lived in ny for 11yrs), The person I would be replacing lives A half hour north of the city, so hopefully the scenery will improve as you get outside of the city. As far as liberal dems and easy to get concealed carry permits go, I didn't think the two went in the same sentence:eek:.

Thanks again

Somehow I think moving as far as possible in CONUS to get away from your dad is the prime motivation. Heck I've never been around him and I'm contemplating a move to Alaska to get away from him :p

I'm not sure what kind of mis information IG is passing around, But I am sure as hell, NO blood relation to that old P.O.S. I knew he was very proud of me, but I never imagined the extent of it!!!:jerkit::rolleyes::D

Well every time he talks about you he uses the :jerkit: so I figured he had something to do with your birth :p

Hey Toecutter. live a little more than a hour north of the city and my house is going to be for sale. am moving back to Montana. I will be around for a while yet and I got more than a kitchen knife. Property is pretty high around here still. Lots of fishing. Some decent hunting if you are not been spoiled by growing up in Montana, I guess. I am in Montana right now. Will be back in WA Tuesday. My cell is 360-708-6007.

Bummer , you are going to lose Jim as a neighbor . But I would have to say I am happy for Jim . Montana , he knows .
My sis has been in that place for 18 yrs . I wrote her and she says to look in the ---Queen Anne and the Walling Ford Area --- whatever the hell that means

Jim , good for you . Be at peace my friend in God's country .

Thanks, I still have to finalize the deal on a place in Lewistown and get rid of the 36' boat project in my back yard as well as sell my place. I will probably hang in Mt Vernon and keep my present job till that happens. I really need a change and so kick back time though.

Thanks Jim, thanks Jack, I'll definitely check out those two towns. How much is gas going for these days out there? Just trying to get a small view into the cost of living. Any papers you would suggest looking in for rentals? Kinda hoping to be rural enough that I can at least shoot my bows and bang on an anvil when I have the time. The person I'm replacing is paying $725 with all included and it has a fireplace and a deck. Sounds pretty cheap to me. 1/2 hr north of seattle I'm told.

Congratulations on the move to Montana, I would definitely be excited for that!! I think I'll be there for a day or 2 around the 27th, So I'll definitely give you a call before that to at least pick your brain for a bit.

Thanks again for the help,
Nathan

Riceguy and Toeburner, I will address the statements toward me a little later today.
Yellowneck, if I was Toeburner's dad, I would of slap the doctor when he was born and would of keep the afterbirth insisted of him.:eek:

That guy is getting a great deal. I think depending on the place. They are around. Gas is in the $2.25 and up range and climbing now. There are people driving an hour + to Seattle. I got a good job and the area has a lot going for it. Sick of the clouds and the rain myself. Plus I can have a place all paid for with a decent shop if I get the place I am looking at and only work part time on the road if I do this move. Let me know whats up. I can't answer my cell during work as I work around a lot of possible bad vapors. Jim

There are many, many knifemakers within a two hour drive of Seattle. Many right in the Seattle area and a bunch of us down in the Portland area. I'm about a 2 hour drive south of Seattle. You won't have any trouble finding a bunch of knifemakers to pal around with.

Good luck on the move!!

The sooner he gets out of here the better.:thumbup: For me anyway.:D;)

Thanks for all the help Gents, I guess I'm gonna have to do a whole bunch of research and see what's available for places when I get there. I think I'm gonna take an extra day and drive around just to get a feel for the place. I will say one thing, no matter what all the negatives are, there is still no IG for 3k miles so it'll probably feel like paradise!!
