Seax finishing

Somebody brought a seax to get sharpened. Problem is it was never finished. The spine is about 5/32 wide tapering down to 1/16 on the never created "edge" by the likely burned in handle and maybe 1/32" near the tip. The spine has a small crack right in the middle running along about 1/2" that makes me questions the blades integrity.

Convex bevel it? Thin it overall then edge it?

I normally stop sharpening about 1/4” from the handle as a proper seax does not have plunge cuts. This is the last one I made and I wish I would of kept it lol.

I’d contact the owner and point out exactly what you see and ask how he wants to proceed. I wouldn’t alter it in any way shape or form until I got further consent.

Great looking Knife, the sheath is perfect.

Well he wants it to have a functional edge. First thing I'm going to do is file test and see if it is even hardened steel.

I’m just suggesting you make sure the owner is aware of the flaws, so they may be addressed by the maker (if applicable), before any work is done.
As some makers will not go back and work behind what a third party has done.
May or may not apply here.
