Hey all. I have never had a seax style knife and interested to hear what people options are on where this design style shines and falls flat. I know this design has a rich history and one of the primary drivers for my interest.

Thinking something like one of the BRK Seax line of knives.

Since historically seax covered any number of shapes from clip point bowie to extra large wharncliff, to something like a leuku it's pretty hard to pinpoint it. https://images.app.goo.gl/NBcZzV7BSQoHUHGH8

Aside from the really big ones, seax were just everyday knives.

However, in the case of the BRK bush seax, that sort of shape cuts well and does kitchen type things very well. The relatively fine tip retains a decent amount of material behind it giving you the ability to do detail work without risking tip breakage so easily. IMO something like that specific knife would be a fine camp knife, though not my first choice for game processing and specifically not for skinning.

I thought about the BRK Bush Seax and the Hauk for a long time. I decided against them and went for the Terävä Skrama and Mini Skrama instead. Price was a big factor for me. Without much belly, there are probably better knives for processing game. They have great tip strength and can really make a nice slashing cut. I use my Mini Skrama for cutting leather for various projects because it can cut a straight line perfectly vertical through several layers of thick leather. Also good carvers.
And always remember: Pillage, THEN burn! :)
