Hello.

I am here on referral from another site. I've been looking for a seax that has a certain shape and size to it, much to no avail, even from custom makers. I was referred to HI, being told they made some seaxs. I looked them up, and they are nearly perfect in shape for what I am looking for,but they seem to have shortish blades (7"-8" typically). I'm wondering how often these are made, and do they ever com in a longer blade length. I'd prefer a 12" BLADE, I don't know what the OAL would come out to. I'd also like it fairly thin (1/4" -- which seems very thin for an HI).

Best bet would be to email Aunti Yangdu at himimp@aol.com. Theres no tellin what she might have in stock. Lately she has been selling many unique items almost daily on the forum deal of the day offerings. 12' blade would probably be 17"+ OAL. May be special order at this time. Wow...17" Seax:thumbup:

yeah i would jump on a 17 inch seax and then bleed to death( if it shows on dotd)

Best bet would be to e-mail Yangdu and ask her if you could have a Seax made to your specifications. I would think it would be, but I would be prepared to wait a while though, the Kami's seemed to be backed up with orders when I placed my order for a customized khuk.

Yep, email Yangdu at himimp@aol.com. she'll get ya some info. The thickness should be no problem. Both seaxes in my collection no more than 1/4" thick.

I'd love to see how it turns out:)

My Seax seemed pretty short too. When I first saw them I didn't think much of them. Now I only wish I had more opportunity to use mine, it fits like a glove. It's about the same measurements as the ones already mentioned.

Shop and Kamis are still busy with pending order Knives. I will put Kamis to make Seax as soon and they get done with old order items.
Warm welcome to the HI and blade forum, Ulfhedinn

Very pointy indeed.... I wish the handle was a little more comfy for my hands but it does feel great in reverse grip.... Super easy to sharpen. An Idea pig sticker if I ever saw one

Honestly, the handles look fat enough to have enough meat to sand them down for a custom fit to the hand.

I was just thinking, I've never seen the sheaths for these. Are they a traditional seax sheath (horizontal carry, edge-up), or a vertical sheath like more modern knives use?

Here's a photo from a Deal of the Day:

...14 inch 18 ounce Seax by Lachhu. Horn handle...

That is one fancy carpet cutter. :D

Anyone knows the kind of heat treatment geometry on those?

It is not recommended to work with the point on a typical Kuk since it is relatively soft. I wonder about these SEAX.

AFAIK, they entire cutting edge is differentially hardened by the same method as the khukuri.
So if I read this right, the whole blade would be like the sweet spot ie hardest? (Green)

I certainly hope so (probably the whole edge and the spine a bit softer)
If there is only one sweet spot on the edge it would be very hard to find in a blade shape like that :D
Good question!

Right... And sorry, I didn't mean to say the "whole blade". What I had in mind was the "whole edge" green, especially the tip.

The whole edge "green" with the other colors radiating to the spine in softer degrees.
