Christof, The Eagle Has Landed!, or the Seax arrived today. It came just as I was leaving for an appointment so just got to open the box, and it was worth the wait. The only thing I may to is to score the wooden handle just behind the spine of the knife, so I can index it, without looking at it. I know you told me before, but cannot remember two things, what oil did you use on the Osage Orange handle, and what is the blade steel? Sheath looks good too, once again proving Koyote Girl is not just a pretty face. I will have to control myself as whe I pick up the Seax I want to go a "Viking" and for some reason the local police frown on that. Thanks again. John

Awesome!

I think indexing is a good thing, so many of my knives have asym handles to begin with. A simple notch is easy to do, yeah.

Linseed or tung oil work well - I do use both, even when it's technically not needed. I've had really good results with rubbing briwax in over time, too.

This one is 5160, I do the heavier blades in 5160 or 8670M.

And I know how it feels- I often want to strap a longer blade like that on and go to town. Something about that particular style really wants to be used.

Thanks for ordering it again!

and for anyone who hasn't seen:

Thanks John!

Just a heads up - the chicago screws have a tendency to loosen up and fall out if left to their own devices. So when you find the perfect carry height I recommend using loc-tite thread locker or clear fingernail polish on the threads.

Christof, Just a quick note. I had sent my Seax off to be photographed for the article we discussed and it was gone for one month, but I was gone most of the time too. I got it back just a few days ago and was sitting here at my computer and tried it out on a 1/2 inch hard wood dowell as well as a bamboo chopstick, and was quite happy to see how well if cut/feathered both the dowell and the bamboo chopstick. You were right when you said you had gotthe blade geometry right on this Seax! Now if it will stop raining I will try it out on some bigger stuff. I also sent of my Leuku, and had noted the Leuku was stiff going in and out of the sheath. All of a sudden it slides in and out quite smoothly, must have got it worn in to the right spot. Good job on the sheath.

Oh, that's excellent!
I was wondering which extra knives I'd been told about. I think the author was confused about who had sent them.

Check out the chopper thread Mneedham posted in WSS, same blade geometry, most of the differences are int he distal taper and handle design.

Sierra tries to make the sheath's as tight as possible since leather will always train in :D

1st post here, but that Seax demands it. My Saxon ancestors would be happy. Outstanding looking work.

I love the spearpoint seax design. Practically as well as historically. It's the basis for the bushbeater design, in fact.

I do some other traditional styles, as well. But this is my favorite for all around use. I need to get photos of penetration tests on the next one. next time we order a beef side, maybe. :D

Man, Christof, I love your stuff. I gave the 2 knives I have of yours to my son....soooo, I need one for myself.

Those Spearpoint Seaxs are Nice, Definiatley a different Blade design than the Modern Seax, I sure nuff like this pair, Great work on the Seax's Koyote,

that larger one is the first 'medium' modern seax I did, with thicker steel and a full convex grind.
