Finally, and after many years waiting, I may be in a position to buy a Sebenza soon. I have looked into the archives and cannot find this:
(Small Seb)
1.What is the thickness of the blade at the cutting edge, just above the bevel? (you might call it the shoulder) Just wondering what kind of a slicer it is.
2. Is the thumb bob press fitted into the blade?

I can't give you the dimensions for your question 1, other then to say it's a better slicer then most except that some Spyderco models do come sharper. It takes a while to reprofile a seb, so if you're interested in a more acute angle, I'd contact CRK directly and ask them to re profile for you. I recently had that done myself.

and #2, yes the thumb thing is pressed in.

Gull Wing: Which Sebbie are you going to get? Large or Small? Classic or regular? Graphic, plain, micarta or other inlay?

Dave, how did the reprofiling work out for you? I'm assuming you had them reprofile it to 15 degrees? How much did they charge?

Hello TKC,
Small Regular Plain
If you have micro handy, just gauge that blade please.

I have a mic in the garage, but I have a large Sebenza. The dimensions are probably different

the reprofiling was less radical then I thought it would be. Jury is still out, so I can't give you a definitive answer. I also not sure how to actually measure the angle without putting it on the sharpmaker.

Did you notice a huuuge difference in cutting ability? I was thinking of getting an Edge Pro with the idea of reprofiling my Sebenza to 15 degrees, and if the increase in cutting ability is minimal, it seems like a lot of money to spend.

For answering to your request, read what i found, measurements have been taken with a calipper, my micrometer stayed at work :D

Large classic 0,78 mm
Small classic 0,70 mm

Both measurements have been taken just above the edge, near the tang.
These figures are not very accuracy and just suggestive, anyway i sharpened both blades in the same way, 25° perside convexed, and IMO i find the small better slicer than its big brother, regarding the values given i imagine if you take measurements just above the bevel with a knife beveled 15° and another 60°, values will be different, you should perhaps put the question directly to CRK which will respond to your question.
Hope this help
Regards

Thank you very much.
Ok, the Bob isn't comming loose.
0.78mm = .030" LARGE - I like this on a big knife.
0.70mm = .275" SMALL - Kind of thick for a small knife. Yes, may need reprofileing?????

Take in account that both blade thickness are the same 0,125 " and with my calculation 0, 70mm = 0,0275" ;)
