Seb spine sure makes a difference

Hi All,

Not sure if "spine" is the correct terminology, but I am referring to back of the knive that your thumb can push/ or rest on when using the knife.

I love to do wood working in my spare time, and every other knive I have owned has a blocked spine, which can really hurt (and cause some serious blisters if your a pencil pusher like me) when you are using your thumb to give added pressure, or to make intricate designs.

The Sebenza is so awesome though in how they have rounded the spine.
I spent several hours the other day making my wife some wooden flowers and the last time i did that, I used a great little Boker which was just as sharp as the Seb, but because of the blocked spine, I could only do one of the flowers before it became to uncomfortable to continue.

I did 4 last Saturday using the Seb.

If I didn't love to whittle on staffs and such, I probably would not have noticed that great little feature, but since I do, it just adds even more confidence in these line of knives, knowing Chris really meant these for a lot of use.

So now I am wondering, Do all CRK knives have this feature, or is it limited to the Sebs?

Thanks,

Reason number 124,847,000 to love the Sebenza. To answer your question, I believe they all have that rounded spine. The blades are all hand ground so they have the ability to take the extra time on little things like that. You should take a photo of some of the stuff you make with your Sebenza. Art Creating Art is a beautiful thought. :)

Some famous knifemaker, I believe it may have been Bill Moran, once said that a blade is not completely finished unless something is done to its spine rather than to leave it simply squared off. Seems most producers, custom or factory, don't finish their blades by this standard. Just another example of the fine detail in fit and finish that are the hallmarks of CRK products.

Wasn't it also that it reduces stress in the steel?

only about 8 hours till my Micarta inlaid Small Sebbie

I also like how the grooves on the thumb ramp are beveled. They don't saw the heck out of your pockets like some other knives.
