So i just read some old thread about the 21 and lock face wear from closing......20 pages or so? ......

Anyway the thread has no real bearing on my opinion of the company, but i wanted to learn about the difference between the lockface on the 21 and the 25 i have.

It seems you experience wear if you close prematurely with the 21 (all users indicate that this wear does nothing to the lock up or function so it really is a pretty mute point)

The ceramic ball would be one of the "improvements" on that design? Along with the sturdier pivot?

The 25 has the ceramic ball interface, which locks against the steel tang of the blade. As we all know, ceramic is a VERY hard substance, and will likely never wear out. I've had mine several months now, and all the wear I can see is just a shiny spot on the edge of the tang, where the ceramic has basically just polished the area where it makes contact. The 21, over time, the surface of the lock bar will erode SLIGHTLY, that's why the tang edge is made at a slight angle like this " / " Therefore as time goes on, the lock bar will continue to keep locking like this " /- ". That's why you hear people say early lockup, late lockup, etc. Early means the lockbar surface hasn't worn out too much, and there's still a lot of life left in it. Does this make sense? I apologize for my crude "drawings", but that's all I can do at the moment..

No, that makes sense, there was a now locked thread with a bunch of people freaking out about what was normal wear and abusive wear on their 21's and it occured to me that the ceramic ball update to the 25 should keep that from occuring (the wear). But i figured i;d double check my theory.
