I tried to figure out a search but there are so many options - basically, I'm getting a small classic & (1) wonder if Tom Mayo styill does his upgrade to it, or if not, does anyone else do the hole-drilling thing, and (2) has anyone tried a Tom Krein regrind? I'm tempted.

Also, any other colorful suggestions?

Send that puppy to Tom :D

IMHO the small is a perfect match for a Krein regrind. As for Mayo still doing them, I believe he is not. But.........I really really wish he would do a few more for us :D

Mayo hasn't done them for years.

There was a thread here about Krein regrind, highly reccommended.

Yeah Tom Mayo doesn't do them anymore but Tom Krein will grind that blade for you and put a great edge on it. Very much worth it IMO. Krein will also sharpen it for you but he doesn't keep the convex edge. I'd send it to him before he stops doing it.

He did my large Micarta serrated one as a grind and sharpened my large Micarta plain edge. I'm real happy with his work and his treatment takes the performance to a whole new level.

I have an email in to Tom, I'll definitely send it to him for regrind.

Does any other maker do the hole-drilling thing? I really liked how that looked. And flame-coloring the anodization too. Maybe STR . . . . .

You could probably find a local machine shop to do some holes for you, or do them yourself, several people have. And there's been some great anodizing threads as well.
