Share your thoughts on a large Sebbie vs. a small Sebbie. Pros and cons etc.

Nice reply! Hehe. This subject has been discussed so many times. At the end each person prefers what suites them the best.

Yeah what he said :D

If you don't want to feel a knife on you small is great for EDC. With a large you will feel it in your pocket, that's not a bad thing IMO. I like to know a knife costing that much is still there.

Also the large is not to big, but the small is just a little to small IMO (if you cut a lot.) If you carry way more than you cut, you might really love a small. I like to overkill on my knives. :D

If I had to only keep one Sebbie it would be a large for sure! I can pick up a Caly 3 or something if I only needed a mail opening knife, and nail cleaning knife. ;)

I carry my small Seb. the most but the large is a real good knife if you need something with a bit more to it.

Got both, either or. Kinda depends on where I'm going and what I might need it for. For 80% of use you can get away with the small but you can't do without the large for that other 20% :p if you're only getting one, get the large.....if you can get both: all the more power to ya. Nothing lacking in either though.

Just weighing in with my opinion - get the large Sebenza. The small is of course a very fine knife but I found in the world of 3" blades you can get similar or better quality for much cheaper. Spyderco UKPK or Caly 3 are about $100 and have better slicing ability. The UKPK has the same premium s30v steel and the caly 3 has VG10 which is also great. The blades are full flat grind so they slice better than the Sebenza. For office or EDC type use you'll probably prefer the UKPK because it's so light and slices very well.

For heavy duty usage I don't think you can beat the large Sebenza.

i had a small and i thought it was the greatest. then i got a large and it's just like the small, only better :)
i like the large better but maybe because it's newer.
the small is really easy to wear in a pocket, you won't even know it's there and people won't notice the blade as much as a large. (i edc the small for years, no one makes a remark, the very first day i take out the large at work i get a lot of raised eyebrows and remarks).
i say: if you only have money for one, get the large, unless sheeple friendly and pocket easy are the main thing.
the large is easy in the pocket too, but just not as slim as a small.

I have the small and love it, and don't think I'd find any specific need for the large in my day to day life. I think this question is much better answered, when you determine what you will be willing to use it for (and wouldn't be willing to use it for, I mean if you aren't gonna really use it for heavy work just delicate stuff, then get a small).

As far as the size of the knife closed or open, it's just one inch difference, so the only issue should be your state's specific laws.

Just my two cents of course.;)

I think the large is perfect. Because it's big in length and strength. (didn't mean to rhyme)But it's not big EVERYWERE like alot of tactical folders.ie surefire and the like

I have both, and like it that way. It might be true that a single "medium" Sebenza would strike the best balance, but then you lose the dimension of the set (actually the trifecta, when you consider the Umfaan). So, I really enjoy having three sizes of the same pattern.

In my mind, the primary advantage of the Large is the greater length of cutting edge. All other things equal, this allows for more work to be done between sharpenings, and also makes it easier to sacrifice one portion of the edge so that the remainder can stay sharp(er). If you're thinking in terms of a defensive weapon, a closed Large works much better as a non-lethal impact tool - although this isn't a major concern to me.

The two obvious advantages of the Small are lack of mass and its non-threatening appearance. I don't spend much time with people who would be bothered by the Large, but it is true that the Small is less threatening - and that is an advantage it would have over a Medium as well. More of concern to me personally, is that there are times when the mass difference is an issue. For example, I sometimes want to clip the knife into the pocket of relatively light, loose-fitting shorts, and engage in activities were I am running around a lot. The Small is a great deal easier to manage in that case.

The small Seb has done everything I ever wanted it to and more. Even served me well building traps and a bowdrill kit at Tracker School last year.

It's not the size, but how you use it.

;)

Professor.

The small is not all that small....he he Search sebenza in youtube and watch cutlerylover's video. It helped me a lot.
