Hi, this is my first time posting in the CRK forum. After unsuccessfully trying to buy a used sebbie off someone (seller has problems with overseas shipping), I'm now getting intoxicated with owning a sebbie.

What sets the sebenza apart from other production folders that warrants its rather steep custom-like pricing? (for eg. I can get a mike obenauf folder for the price of a sebbie) is it NOTICEABLY better than microtechs and spydies? is it better than some customs? is the convex edge of sebbies NOTICEABLY sharper than say, a NIB VG10 delica (my sharpest knife thus far, even sharper than many customs)?

Lastly, does someone have a used but not abused (box, papers n all incl.)regular small sebbie in S30V to sell cheaply to a hoping-to-be-sebbie owner like me?

Thanks - please lend me the support and give me the reasons why I should get a sebbie....

How about that you can take it apart, clean it, and put it back together (perfectly) without voiding warrenty?

Ted

What Ted said :)

That's what really sets it apart and it's the reason, why, like Ted, I like 'em.

And it's as well made as any custom or production knife IMO.

Regarding sharpness, in my experience there are many folders as sharp or sharper. Obenauf is one.

Those VG-10 Spydies are razor sharp! I wouldn't say the sebenza is quite as sharp but there are certainly differences that you will immediately notice the first time you handle a sebenza. The two things I first noticed was the uniquely smooth blade action, and when I say smooth I mean its like the blade is floating - and the zero, and I mean ZERO, blade play. One thing I personally love about the sebenza .. I don't know why.. Is the fact that there is nothing written or engraved on the blade, not even the steel type. Adds to the mystique of the knife I feel.

I've used one Spyerderco knife in my life, and that was a Dodo. My Sebbie is sharper than the dodo was. Also, after years of use, your Sebbie will still lock up perfectly and have no balde play, granted you haven't abused it. This is something that you can say for only a handful of knives, most of them more expensive than a Sebbie.

You should watch the forums for a deal on a Sebenza. They don't come cheap. Most people seem to be asking just a little below list price. If I were you I would try to get one new. Think of it as a lifetime investment. I have an Obenauf model 2 and the blade is thick compared to the Sebenza. The Seb slides through my apple while the Obie prys it open. My advice is to find something you like and go for it. At Blade Show West I saw a unique graphic of an outdoor scene with the pine trees and an inlay of mother of pearl as the moon. If it was left handed I would have bought it. You'' have this knife a long time, find one you like, one you can live with. You won't be dissapointed.

I own dozens of custom folders but the knife that is in my pocket 99% of the time is a CRK seb! Why because of their style, fit and finish. Easy take down and great customer service.
You won't be disappointed.

Oh, I dunno, I've gotten some excellent quality used Sebenzas here at BF, at fairly reasonable prices. That's one of the nice things about the Sebenza: you really can't wear them out. My advice would be to pick up a used Sebenza, just to try it out and see if you like it (strange though it may seem, not everyone falls in love with the Sebenza). Then, if everything works out, you can treat yourself to a new one.

Oh, another nice thing about Sebenzas: there are no lemons. Defective knives get through other companies' QC every once in a while, but I've never heard of anyone getting a "bad" Sebenza. I have seven of 'em. Some were bought new, others were bought used, but all were perfect (barring some scratches in the used ones, of course).

still looking for a used sebbie. large s30V regular preferred. bg42 is ok too. thanks.

I just traded my reg for a lg Classic. These were my first Sebenzas.I liked the Reg but was used to the blade shape of my Spyderco Military.I got the Classic in the mail yesterday and love it.I am planning on useing Xmas money to get a sm decroated sebie for dress carry.BTW I just saw one sell on the forums for 180.00.If you find one you want and they will not ship it out of the country I will offer to accept it for you and ship it to you but I can't take responceablity for it getting to you.And then again if you agree to this with the seller he should have no problem shipping it but if you do that make sure its a seller with a really great rep.

FYI - Scott Dog
Just in case you havent seen it yet, I just noticed that True North has a specific section for left hand CRKs

tim, thanks for the offer to help ship. I missed out on that 180 one as well. missed anor at 160 too. sigh. actually shipping out of US to singapore is real easy n safe - dunno why some sellers are hesitant/unwilling to do so....

hmmm I thought it was on page 45 but somehow I can't find it... ;)

I know may have seen this but I was just cleaning the ol hard drive and thought it deserved to be shown for those that have missed it.

This cracks me up everytime I look at it !

i think people like the sebenza because it's a good all around knife. It's tough but the not the toughest, it's sharp but not the sharpest, it's of superb quality but the best. It's perfect in the sense that it hits all the categories on the dot. Also, I think a obenauf framelock is an excellent knife, especially at that price. It'd be hard for me to decide between a large classic sebenza or a obenauf framelock.

Carson , Carson and Obenauf ! Have you seen this trio collab yet ?
I got the chance to handle one the weekend of Blade West ( but not at Blade West ) this was dam close to perfection ..it had a small flaw though... it wasn't for sale ;)
