Hey guys. I was looking to put my own lanyard on my Sebenza 21 so I began unraveling the stock lanyard that it came with.

A tiny blue guage fell out while I was doing this. Did I just break something? The guage itself is not big enough to stay inside the lanyard hole without being secured with paracord, so I'm wondering if that's what it's there for.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of lanyards on my knives in the first place but the perfectionist in me is worried that this little blue piece was something important.

My guess is that you have a large 21 and what fell out is the lanyard pin. You thread the lanyard material (paracord or whatever) through the hole in the pin. The lanyard keeps the pin from falling out.

Did your lanyard have a decorative bead? Like below? If yes, it's just decorative.

A lot of guys out a piece of para cord in the pin and melt the ends, this'll keep the pin from sliding out.

My recommendation is to put a piece of heat shrink tubing on the pin then cut it to fit. It looks better and there are all kinds of colors you can get the tubing in.

Automotive stores, like Advanced Auto or Car Quest carry it or you can go to a Radio Shack and buy some for a couple of $.

How many of you use lanyards with your large sebenza? I find I don't really need it.

I've kept the lanyards on all 4 of my Sebbies and my Umnum. It isn't a necessity, I just like the way the lanyard looks, and it gives a little more to grab onto, especially when taking out of the pocket.

Lanyard makes it easier to get the seb out of your pocket, but then if there is a possibility that I'm going to need my knife fast, I won't be carrying my seb.
