Sebenza 21 anomaly?

I just aquired a 21 with a birth date of Dec. 15, 2008. The handle code, however, is A 09, which I understand to mean the first quarter of 2009. The knife appears to be mint. December 2008 is very close to January 2009, which is in the first quarter of 2009, but it still seems weird that the birthdate precedes the handle code. Does it mean that it is a refurb or something else? What do you guys think?

Typically it's the other way, could be you got a card stamped wrong or a wrong card. Did you get it from a dealer or individual?

It's possible that they were running low on scales, made some up new and marked them A09, and actually ran out before they finished the run of knives your knife came from and therefore started using the A09 scales in December (?). That's a total WAG.

I bought it from an individual, who did specify that it was pre-owned. Everything is as it should be for a 21 from 2008 (screws type, blade code S, no Idaho stamp, etc.) Just wondering if anyone else has run into the same date situation. Are there ways to tell if it is an original or if it has been to the spa? Either way, it is stunning. It is my first time handling a 21. I had a 25 before. I like the 21 so much more.

Do you plan to use it or collect it?

Honestly, I'd shrug it off and enjoy the mystery and the knife. I can understand the curiosity though;)

You bought a Sebenza that had parts made in the future ( at that time ), that's totally awesome....!!!

Sebenzanator! Love it! I am mostly curious. It's going to be user so it doesn't matter. The action is perfectly smooth and the blade is flawless and super sharp. Only thing is, I will have to be vigilant for any attempts by the knife to stab me, while speaking in an Austrian accent. Best keep it away from the housekeeper as well.

It sounds like the birthday cards probably just got mixed up with another knife. As you know the norm would be the birthdate being after the handle slab code date. :)

If it asks for your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle just smile and hand them over. :D

Yup, and don't worry if you ever lose it...it will be back.
