I purchased a new small sebenza 21 to replace my current EDC small regular sebenza and when I was taking it apart I noticed that the detent hole in the blade was actually a hole and not an "inlet."

Is this normal?

Many makers use a hole as a detent, Strider for ex. Maybe CRK changed.

Interesting...
Something new with the 21 series maybe...??

FWIW: My new Umnumzaan has an "inlet" and not a hole.

Any other small/large 21 owners out there have the same thing?

My small 21 made on April 6, 2009 has an inlet and my large 21 made on July 6, 2009 has a hole.

From a manufacturing stand point it would mean that the blades could be used for either right or left handed knives as needed...that is until the angle is made in the rear for the lock...

I would guess its more of a cost savings and a more efficient manufacturing process for CRK...easier to make a hole than to make a small recess??

my 21 DOB 7/15 has a complete hole as well... It seems to have the best closed retention of any Sebenza I've ever owned... LOVE IT!!!

Ok I was just making sure that I didn't have a freak sebenza :o. The DOB for mine is 6/23/09. As someone had mentioned, it does seem to have the a lot more closed retention. My small regular benza with the "inlet" is much easier to open.

The reason I brought it up was even though I've been using my small regular Benza for close to a year, my thumb has been pretty sore for the past 2 days. I figured it would be the break in process of the new 21 but didn't remember the benza being this hard to open. Naturally, I thought it would have something to do with the hole, but who knows. Either way, it is starting to break in just fine! I do however, have a small bruise on my thumb :foot:.

I think the hole would also help that things like pocket lint does not get stuck and cause the retention that the framelock creates to be less affective. (Less chance of opening unintended in the pocket since there have been a few threads going around that the seb opens up to easy in the pocket)
