Hello !

I've juste receive a Sebenza classic 21 from an american autorised dealer and there is no steel ball at the end of the lock where the blade turn, but there is a triangle of a polish color.

Is it normal and evolution, or a fabrication mistake ?

Thank you

I have opened a couple of them to clean and the triangle of polish color is normal and no steel ball is normal.

There is a small steel ball on the inside of the framelock that acts as the detent. Some blades have a small round hole this steel ball rests in for the detent, on newer sebenzas, there is a hole drilled all the way through...........As for the framelock face, you will see the triangle you are talking about. CRK uses tape to mack off a small area and then heat treats the lockbar face. When they remove the tape, you will see the clean line which looks like a triangle.
There are no ceramic balls on a sebenza ( only on the new 25 sebenza coming out which uses the umnumzaan style of lockup ).

Your good to go, no problems at all. Enjoy Your CRK.

nyfemaker,

not trying to impose but Chris stated in "The exquisite Blade" dvd that all of his folders use the ceramic detent balls.

again not trying to impose but just needed to clarify that information :)

I seem to remember that as well in the vid. However I thought before they used ceramic, they used steel. Switch came around 2000 or so? May be wrong on that.

They were using steel at least until '97. CRK did a free replacement on a '97 Seb for me (steel -> ceramic) when it was in for warranty service.

Thank you, I am going to have to open one of mine and look for it. I guess I thought there wasn't one there as it doesn't fall out, or at least I think it doesn't fall out.
