Hey all,

I somehow luckily got both of my sebenzas today. A large Ebony/gold inlaid classic and a small plain jane 21. I love them both, but I really love the fact that the jimping on the small 21 actually locks in the thumb. Does the large 21 have jimping that locks in the thumb too? I won't get rid of this beautiful classic, but just curious why the jimping on the large classic isn't made to lock in the thumb as the small sebenza is? Does the large 21 have jimping that locks the thumb in?

Based on past experience, the jimping on any Sebenza blade is pretty much the same whether it's a Regular, Classic, or 21. Don't know why there's a noticeable difference between your Classic and 21....

Ya, there is a huge difference between my small 21 sebenza made in July of this year and my classic large sebenza. I mean, huge difference. The small sebenza's jimping will not allow your thumb to move at all, completely locks it in. The Classics jimping is just for show, though with the design of the knife I could care less, but it would feel a little better..

Ok, I will post them tomorrow when the sun is up, right now the pix would be crappy. But the classics jimping is rounded, the smalls jimping is spiky, the best word to describe it. Also, the jimping is spaced way closer together on the small.

Ok - we'll be here. . . . And I totally understand about the sun light - it's the best lighting for pictures. For example, my Vines:

I'll look for your pix tomorrow. . . .

IIRC, Chris Reeve tried larger jimping on the Sebenza in 2004-2005, but went back to the original soon afterwards.

Actually, there is a Seb for sale on a certain auction site with large jimping if anyone is interested. I've got no horse in the race - just thought I'd mention it.

Ok, got back from taking photos, don't know if they will be the best but they pretty much show what I am talking about. And yes to the person who posted the pictures above, that is the difference I am talking about. And I also posted a picture of the small and large sebenza vs the Buck Mayo TNT and bnechmade 710 to give other people a pretty good size refrence. By the way, the TNT is not really much bigger at all then the small sebenza blade wise. Loving these knives a lot!

Hey guys, haven't heard a response, so is the jimping I have on my large sebenza different then most other sebenzas? It does have mighty large, spaced out, rounded jimping. Do the newer large 21's have tighter jimping like on my small 21?

Thanks.

My large 21 has the tighter jimping. The jimping is identical on all the large and smalls I've owned.

Oh, ok. Wouldn't mind getting a large sebenza with some tighter, grippier jimping then. I still love my gold inliad ebony sebenza though, that is mighty beautiful.

I haven't seen that before (or, at least, not noticed it). I double checked my Large Seb, and it has the same tight jimping as my smalls.

BTW, nice pix and very nice group you have there!

My Large 21 and Small 21 both had identical jimping, but it is not so grippy. More show than effect. The jimping looks and feels as if they were sharp triangles that have been sanded down. Hope that makes sense.

Although the jimping on my Damascus 21 and Large Regular have sharp triangle like jimping that is very effective for grip.
