Sebenza 21 lanyard hole mod

I just stumbled on a thread from 2015 about how user Norvox modded his Umnumzaan by replacing the lanyard pin with another screw and back spacer. Someone asked about whether the mod will work for a 21, but it looks like there is not enough room for two back spacers there. Someone asked whether there is enough room to fit a stop pin bushing in that space, but no one replied. Has anyone tried this? If so, I will just go ahead and order those parts. I don't use a lanyard, and that empty hole bugs me.

Thanks for the info!

Why don't you just try it yourself? Just swap out your pivot screw, bushing and put it in the back.

I believe you are correct in assuming two back spacers will not fit. Too large. Eyeballing it, it looks like the stop pin bushing would work perfectly so long as the screws will fit. I'll try it next time I take down a Sebenza.

One of the great things about CRK's is the ability to assemble/disassemble them with ease.

Not too many parts, nothing that doesn't need to be there.

That kinda seems to me like adding something that doesn't need to be there...

I honestly can't give you a reason for it, but the lanyard hole / lanyard pin on CRK's has always bothered me. I absolutely despise using a lanyard, and the 'cut it off and burn it' solution has always seemed way too ghetto for my taste. Why have a $500 knife with a piece of burnt lanyard stuck in the handle?

I don't know why something so small bothers me so much. Maybe I'm crazy, but I can understand why the OP is looking to try this. Personally, I always fill the lanyard hole on my large 21's with custom titanium lanyard pins. They work perfectly. Unfortunately, the custom pin on my Umnumzaan rattles a little (unlike the large 21 pins), so I plan to employ the "Norvox solution" linked above. It looks really, really good on the Umnumzaan, IMO.

Ian, if you decide to give this a shot on your small 21, let us know how it turns out!

I contacted CRK this morning to purchase some spare parts. Thought I'd buy a stop pin just to try this out for you, but they told me they don't send out stop pin bushings / screws - you have to send the knife in so they can fit it. Not worth the time and effort, IMO.

I have spare barrel screws and tried fitting it in the lanyard hole last night. It fit, but that lanyard hole isn't countersunk like the other holes in the handles, so it sat kind of proud. It fits and would work, but I'm OCD and couldn't stand that one screw sitting up higher. Also, there's no way that you could put another backspacer where the lanyard hole is, your blade would strike it and wouldn't close all the way. This was done on a large Insingo by the way...

Kind of late to this thread. I hate the lanyard but want the pin in there I found a site that sells titanium replacement pins for the large sebenza. (non-supporting dealer link removed )they also sell pocket clips too check it out.

Do not link to non-supporting dealers to Bladeforums.

I removed your link, please familiarize yourself with the rules.

You could try to put some heat shrink tubing and have it wraped the centre portion of the lanyard pin. Leave some area free at both ends of the pin as it has to sit in the titanium handles.
