I have to admit that I’m still a bit confused on the differences between the pivot mechanism of the 21 versus the 31. I know the 21 has the pivot bushings and you can snug your pivot screw down without worrying about blade tension but can the same be said of the 31?. Does a 31 pivot adjust like the ‘Zaan and Inkosi? What difference does the thicker stop pin make? Why would the pivot “back out” or loosen on the 31 versus the 21?

Sorry if this has been covered but I’m still looking for a concise mechanical comparison.

Nothing changes with the pivot mechanism. The 31 still has the same pivot bushing as the 21. The changes are in the lockbar and blade stop. The lockbar of the 21 is just the titanium making contact with the blade tang. The 31 has a ceramic ball staked to the end to make contact with the blade tang instead. The 21 uses a sexbolt with a collar to act as the blade stop and dictate the distance between the handle slabs. The 31 is a single piece of hardened, shouldered pin to do the same job and and it's fastened in with a screw on each side.

They both use the same pivot bushing setup. The stop pin itself is now hardened. On older versions the stop pin will actually gain a flat spot where the tang hits it. With a hardened pin, more shock is being transferred into the screws and scales, causing a few to back out.

Go to YouTube and search for Sebenza 21 disassembly then Sebenza 31 disassembly.

31s have a different and harder stop pin than 21s do and that hardness is what causes screws to back out. The vibrations transfer more I guess. My 31s don't back out at all and I don't use locktite.
