Hi,

So I recently was given a Rat 2 by a fellow BF member and after holding it in hand and cutting a couple of pretty routine items. I am wondering how it would hold up versus a Sebenza 21 as they are about the same size and blade shape. The main difference that I can see is handle type and blade steel. Would anyone help me out with a thorough comparison? Thanks. When you post on the poll please leave constructive feedback as well. Please provide a good reason as to WHY you voted the way you did in your answer. If you plan to troll, please go elsewhere. Only constructive feedback is wanted.

My good friend has the rat and I have small sebenza.

both are about a year old and both get used daily, both boxes and plastic liners cords wraps etc.

Mine looks brand new still while rat is showing blade play.

mine also whittles random wood on my hikes, while his does not.

id go with a sebenza everytime.

However he is less likely to go crazy if he loses his knife as opposed to losing a sebenza.

forgot to mention, that rat is a truly fine knife for its price to be even compared to a sebbenza.

A comparison between a $30 folder and a $300 folder?...

I've had my RAT 1 for a couple years now. It was EDC'd for over a year and saw daily use varying from light to heavy. It has zero blade play in any direction.

My daughter got a RAT 2 a few weeks ago and it just doesn't seem as solid as mine. I know of course it's smaller, but with disregard to size, it just seems inferior.

Of course you're asking RAT 2 vs. small Sebenza 21 though, which is like asking Chevy Aveo vs. Chevy Corvette ZR1. You don't really compare them, you get different value at different price points.

A logical person would argue against why we would need any more than a RAT 2 in our Chevy Aveo...but are any of us really logical? :)

except there's a huge leap up in performance from an aveo to a Corvette. not so much with the rat to sebenza.

That depends on how you plan on using it. Is a ZR1 going to help you get groceries or go to work? Not really. Is a Sebenza 21 going to help you open the mail or cut tags off clothes? Not really.
